Netflix just confirmed what fans were dreading but also kind of hoping for, a Heartstopper movie finale is officially happening.
That’s right, there won’t be a Season 4. Instead, the story will wrap up with a feature-length film that’s expected to go big. Based on creator Alice Oseman’s upcoming Volume Six of the graphic novel series, this movie marks the final chapter for Nick and Charlie, and it sounds like it’s going to be emotional.
The streaming giant made the announcement on X, posting, “Heartstopper will return, bigger than ever. A Heartstopper movie, our final chapter based on Alice Oseman’s upcoming volume six, is coming!!!” Cue the internet collectively crying and cheering at the same time.
Kit Connor and Joe Locke are coming back as Nick and Charlie (obviously), and they’ll also be executive producing the film. Alice Oseman herself penned the script, and Still Alice director Wash Westmoreland is taking the reins for this one. Filming kicks off this summer, and fans are already speculating about the emotional rollercoaster we’re about to be taken on.
The movie picks up right after Season 3 ends, with Nick and Charlie in love but facing some big life changes. According to Netflix’s early synopsis, Nick is getting ready to leave for university, while Charlie is figuring out his own independence back at school. Long-distance vibes are incoming, and yep, their relationship is about to be seriously tested.
One question fans still have: will Olivia Colman return? She missed Season 3 due to scheduling conflicts and said she was “gutted” about it. Her character, Sarah Nelson, was a fan favorite, so fingers crossed the movie gives her a comeback.
Olivia’s comments about Kit Connor also hit hard. She’s publicly supported him after he was trolled online, and her message was clear, “I am so proud of him… but not proud of how people bullied him.” The love in this cast, both on and off screen, is part of what makes Heartstopper so special.
