The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are celebrating seven years of marriage this May.
Whether you love the former royal couple or hate ‘em, there’s no denying one thing: how much these two adore one another. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle share a fairytale romance, and fans can’t help but admire how in love the pair have remained after all their years in the spotlight. In fact, it sometimes appears as though the two are more in love now than they were during the height of their honeymoon phase.
It makes fans wonder: how have the two managed to keep the romance alive and well, without dealing with the dreaded seven-year itch?
First off: Is The Seven Year Itch a Real Thing?
The seven year itch is a notorious phenomenon that’s been around for ages. It basically suggests that marriages begin to get stale, specifically seven years into the romance, after this set period of time. But is this just pseudo-science? Or is there actual validity to this cynical phenomenon? Let’s investigate.
According to Cleveland Clinic, there is no scientific proof that the seven year itch is a real thing. In fact, it’s straight up fiction, since it’s a term derived from a movie starring Marilyn Monroe, fittingly called “The Seven Year Itch.” But despite the fictional nature of this phenomenon, it’s not exactly unheard of that couples begin to lose their spark over a long period of time together. Yet somehow, Harry and Meghan manage to make it work. What’s their secret? How is the couple still so attached at the hip?
Meghan Markle Spills Secrets on Her Marriage To Prince Harry
The Duchess of Sussex is finally spilling the beans on how she still gets butterflies from her nearly seven-year marriage to Prince Harry. While appearing on The Drew Barrymore Show, Meghan explained to the host, “I am married to the funniest, sweetest, most charming (man.) I have a partner who’s so supportive of me… We have this connection because we’re so committed to treating each other the same way we did before you had a ring on it, before it was locked down.”
Furthermore, while sitting down for her first-ever podcast appearance as a guest, the Duchess of Sussex revealed that she and Harry feel like they’re more in the “honeymoon phase” now at year seven, than they were at the beginning of their relationship. This is because now, they don’t have to deal with all the stressors brought upon them by their former royal duties. Now, they can just sit back, relax, and enjoy date nights as a married couple.
Meghan explained during her podcast appearance, “Seven years later, when you have a little bit of breathing space, you can just enjoy each other in a new way. And that’s why I feel like it’s more of a honeymoon period for us now.”
