“I Didn’t Get It”: Lily Allen Opens Up About Failed White Lotus Audition

Lily Allen just revealed she auditioned for one of the hottest shows on television, HBO’s The White Lotus.

The 39-year-old British singer and actress opened up about sending in a self-taped audition for Mike White’s acclaimed anthology series but ultimately not landing the part. The revelation came on her new podcast Miss Me?, which she co-hosts with longtime friend Miquita Oliver.

“I haven’t auditioned for anything really,” Allen admitted. “I did do a self-tape for The White Lotus and obviously did not get it. But I think I’m a bit scared of doing self-tapes.”

Allen, who has been carving out a second act in acting since appearing on stage in 2:22 A Ghost Story, explained that part of her hesitation around auditions in the past was fear of being judged.

“Maybe now I would do them because I don’t think people give as much of a s*** about me anymore,” she said, laughing. “Back in the day I didn’t like the idea of casting officers having a tape of me in case they would share it with other people. Now I don’t really subscribe to that fear so much.”

While she didn’t make the cast of The White Lotus, Allen has her eyes on more acting work. She’s set to star as the lead in a new stage adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda, directed by Matthew Dunster. It marks a major moment for Allen, who has been praised for her previous performances in the West End.

“I did a photoshoot last week for Hedda, the play that I’ve got coming up and I really loved it,” she shared. “I’m really excited about getting into the rehearsal days for this play. I do hope that I get more opportunities.”

Allen says she’s ready to take acting more seriously now, despite previous self-doubt. “I want to put myself out there a little bit more and be a bit braver with doing self-tapes and going up for auditions and stuff because it is something that I enjoy and something that I think I have the ability to be good at.”

Still, she keeps her ambitions grounded: “I don’t know if the Oscars is what I’m going for, but a nice UK detective series, I’d love that.”

The White Lotus, known for its dark humor, social commentary, and eclectic casting, has become a cultural phenomenon since its debut. With a new season on the way and speculation already buzzing about who might join the ensemble next, Allen’s confession adds a fresh layer of curiosity for fans.

Whether it’s TV, stage, or maybe even that dream detective series, Lily Allen is clearly not done surprising us yet.
