Demi Moore has been killing it on the big screen in her most sparkling comeback yet.
While she’s currently riding high off her Oscar buzz and ever-expanding fandom, there was a time when Moore’s life wasn’t nearly as glamorous.
In fact, as the actress reveals in her thoughtful memoir “Inside Out,” growing up in her tumultuous family household was anything but picture-perfect. As Moore poignantly reveals in her book, she had moved around 30 times with her parents by the time she was only 14 years old.
This total lack of stability, along with the allegedly toxic treatment of her parents, had ultimately led Moore to seek stability within her romantic relationships. According to the “Ghost” star, she was willing to marry just about anyone in order to escape her chaotic home life. And that’s where Freddy Moore steps into the picture.

While we all know of Demi Moore’s star-studded relationships that have been the subject of tabloid fodder for decades, many people are less privy to the fact that Demi Moore was married long before her famous relationships dominated headlines.
Before getting hitched with Bruce Willis and Ashton Kutcher, the Oscar-nominated celeb was wed to a small-town Minnesota-based rocker named Freddy Moore.
The pair tied the knot when the “Scarlet Letter” actress was only 18. Meanwhile, Freddy was 31 years old. If you thought their uncomfortable age gap was already enough of a red flag, the way they went about becoming a couple further highlights how problematic their relationship was.
According to Moore, she’d first spotted Freddy when he was performing as a lead singer for a local band called The Kats. Moore says she attended the concert with her boyfriend, Tom, yet left him later that night to be with Freddy instead. Meanwhile, Freddy left his longtime wife and high school sweetheart in order to be with “The Substance” star..
Moore said of her feelings at the time, “I was a self-absorbed teenager who hadn’t been raised with a lot of respect for the institute of marriage, and I jumped into life with Freddy without, I’m sorry to say, much concern for his wife.”

In a devastating turn of events, Demi Moore reveals in her memoir that she lost her father to suicide when he was only 36 years old. As a result of her father’s tragic death, the actress decided to rush into a marriage with Freddy, in order to distract herself from the utter pain of the experience.
Yet in her gut, she knew she was committing to a life with Freddy for all the wrong reasons. So in an act of sabotage, Demi writes that she cheated on her then-fiance the night before their wedding.
“The night before we got married, instead of working on my vows, I was calling a guy I’d met on a movie set,” Moore reveals in her 2019 book. “I snuck out of my own bachelorette party and went to his apartment.”
Moore reflects on her choice, continuing, “Why did I do that? Why didn’t I go and see the man I was committing to spend the rest of my life with, to express my doubts? Because I couldn’t face the fact that I was getting married to distract myself from grieving the death of my father. Because I felt there was no room to question what I’d already put in motion. I couldn’t get out of the marriage, but I could sabotage it.”
The pair eventually divorced, yet “The Substance” actress kept one thing from that marriage- Freddie’s last name. (Demi’s real name is Demi Gene Guynes.)
The Substance Star Is Thriving in 2025
Fortunately, the actress is in a much better place since her toxic first marriage to Freddy Moore. As of late, Demi Moore is enjoying time as a co-parent with Bruce Willis, while spending quality time with their three daughters. The talented actress has come so far since her rocky beginnings, and we absolutely cannot wait to see what performances she has in store for us next.
