In a surprising turn of events, the woman who accused Jay-Z of rape has filed a motion to dismiss his defamation lawsuit. This comes after Jay-Z sued her in March 2025, claiming malicious prosecution and defamation. The lawsuit stems from an accusation made by Jane Doe, who alleged Jay-Z and Diddy raped her at an MTV Video Music Awards afterparty back in 2000 when she was just 13 years old.
Though Doe’s initial lawsuit was voluntarily dismissed by her attorneys in February 2025, Jay-Z took legal action a month later, claiming that the accusations against him were false and an attempt to extort him. He stated that the allegations caused him significant harm, including damage to his reputation and financial losses for his business, Roc Nation.
In her latest motion to dismiss, filed on April 22, 2025, Doe’s legal team argues that Jay-Z’s lawsuit doesn’t meet the required legal standard to proceed. The motion attacks his malicious prosecution claim, asserting that the rapper’s legal filing lacks evidence of any wrongful action after the lawsuit was filed. Doe’s attorneys also argue that the civil conspiracy charge should be dismissed, as the alleged conspiracy would require more than one party, and her legal team doesn’t fit that description.
Additionally, Doe is asking the court to throw out Jay-Z’s defamation claim. Her lawyers argue that her statements, including those made to the media, are protected by California law as privileged communication. They also point out that Jay-Z’s own complaint undermines his defamation claim, as he himself acknowledged that media outlets, like NBC News, disproved Doe’s allegations.
Jay-Z claims he has suffered emotional harm, humiliation, and out-of-pocket losses exceeding $20 million. His attorney, Alex Spiro, defended the rapper’s actions in an interview with Good Morning America, calling the lawsuit necessary to clear Jay-Z’s name. Spiro added that recordings allegedly show Doe denying the accusations, and suggested that her lawyer, Tony Buzbee, pushed her to falsely name Jay-Z.
However, Buzbee fired back, labeling Spiro’s claims as “blatant lies” and insisting that the truth will come out in court. As this legal battle unfolds, all eyes are on how the court will respond to Doe’s motion to dismiss and whether Jay-Z’s defamation claim will hold up.
The ongoing saga between Jay-Z and his accuser has just taken another dramatic turn. Do you think the court will dismiss the lawsuit, or will Jay-Z’s legal claims stand strong?
