In a stunning about-face, the woman who accused Jay-Z of rape filed a motion to dismiss his defamation lawsuit. This is after Jay-Z sued her in March 2025 on grounds of malicious prosecution and defamation. The lawsuit comes from an accusation made by Jane Doe, who alleged Jay-Z and Diddy raped her at the MTV Video Music Awards afterparty back in 2000, when she was 13 years old.
Although the original lawsuit filed by Doe was voluntarily dismissed by her attorneys in February 2025, Jay-Z filed a lawsuit one month later, claiming the allegations against him were not true and that she was attempting to extort him. He said the allegations caused him irreparable harm, including damages to his reputation and financial loss for his business Roc Nation.

In her new motion to dismiss filed on April 22, 2025, Doe’s legal team contends Jay-Z’s lawsuit fails the legal threshold required to move forward. The motion strikes at his malicious prosecution claim, contending that the rapper’s legal filing does not constitute evidence of any wrong action on the part of Doe since the lawsuit was filed. Doe’s attorneys also argue the civil conspiracy charge should be dismissed because the alleged conspiracy would involve more than one party, and her legal team doesn’t fit that bill.
Moreover, Doe is asking the court to dismiss Jay-Z’s claim of defamation. Her lawyers make an argument that her statements, including those to the media, are protected under privileged communication according to California law. Her lawyers also indicate that Jay-Z’s complaint itself undermines his claim of defamation since he himself said that the media, like NBC News, disproved Doe’s allegations. Jay-Z claims he has suffered emotional distress, humiliation, and out-of-pocket losses in excess of $20 million. In an interview with Good Morning America, Jay-Z’s attorney, Alex Spiro, said the rapper’s lawsuit was necessary to clear Jay-Z’s name. Spiro said recordings allegedly show Doe denying the accusations and suggested that her lawyer, Tony Buzbee, pushed Doe to falsely name Jay-Z.

However, Buzbee fired back, labeling Spiro’s claims as “blatant lies,” insisting that the truth will definitely emerge in court. With this unfolding legal battle in full swing, all eyes are on how the court will rule on Doe’s motion to dismiss and whether Jay-Z’s defamation claim holds water. Well, the Jay-Z saga with his accuser has just taken another dramatic turn.
Do you think the court will dismiss the lawsuit, or will Jay-Z’s legal claims stand strong?
