Jonathan Majors on Marvel Exit: “I Still Believe in Kang”

After being dismissed from his role as Kang the Conqueror following a misdemeanor conviction in 2023, Jonathan Majors says he’s still hopeful about a return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In a recent interview, Majors confirmed he has reached out to Marvel to express his interest but hasn’t heard back.

Still Holding Out Hope

“I’ve written to them,” Majors shared. “They know I’m willing. I still believe in Kang.” His portrayal of the time-bending villain appeared in key MCU projects like Loki and Quantumania, with Kang originally set to anchor the next phase of Marvel’s multiverse arc.

Marvel Studios cut ties with Majors in December 2023 following his conviction for assault and harassment. The decision led to speculation that the studio might recast the role or pivot its storyline entirely.

Looking to the Past for Perspective

Marvel is bringing back Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans

Without criticism, Majors noted how Marvel has navigated past controversies involving other actors. “I saw how things worked out with Robert Downey Jr. and Jeremy Renner,” he said. “They had their challenges. I just hope to be extended the same kind of grace.”

Downey Jr., now one of the MCU’s most iconic figures, faced substance-related legal troubles before launching Iron Man in 2008. Jeremy Renner also encountered personal controversies but continued his role as Hawkeye across multiple projects.

Marvel’s Next Move?

As Marvel recalibrates its multiverse plans, the door isn’t necessarily closed. Industry insiders suggest that with delays, rewrites, and franchise fatigue, nothing is off the table. But for now, there’s no official comment from Marvel on Majors’ future.

“I love the character,” Majors said. “I think there’s more to tell. Whether I get to tell it, I don’t know.”
