The Doctor Odyssey star is officially done playing nice.
Joshua Jackson has just filed a motion requesting an emergency custody order modification against ex-wife Jodie Turner-Smith, and things are getting messier by the minute. At the center of this brewing custody battle is their 5-year-old daughter, Juno, and a surprise school switch that Jackson says he never agreed to.
The legal drama erupted on Friday, June 30, when Jackson filed his request, accusing Turner-Smith of unilaterally changing their daughter’s school without discussing it with him. In the court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Jackson expressed concern that Turner-Smith is “attempting to create a scenario where Juno travels with her rather than attending a traditional school.” The actor, now 46, isn’t just looking for answers, he wants a legal guarantee that Juno will stay in her current school for the next academic year. He’s also pushing for a requirement that both parents give joint consent for any future school changes.
This is just the latest twist in a custody saga that started with love, secrecy, and a very public split. Joshua Jackson and Jodie Turner-Smith were first linked romantically in 2018, before secretly tying the knot in 2019. They later welcomed their baby girl, Juno, in April 2020. Although the couple mostly kept their family life private, they were spotted together frequently until Turner-Smith filed for divorce in October 2023 after four years of marriage.
The divorce was finalized in May 2025, with Jackson agreeing to pay $2,787 per month in child support. The two agreed to share joint custody of their daughter. But not everything was settled so cleanly. The one big unresolved issue? Where Juno would go to school. That topic, according to Jackson’s latest court motion, has now become a full-blown legal headache.
Back in 2024, Turner-Smith was granted final authority to make educational decisions under a court-approved agreement, but only after consulting Jackson. According to him, that consultation clearly didn’t happen this time. In his declaration, Jackson accuses Turner-Smith of brushing off the importance of consistency in their daughter’s life, allegedly saying it’s “no big deal to force Juno to start over with a new school.” Jackson isn’t buying it, and he’s now asking the court to step in.
Turner-Smith hasn’t publicly responded to Jackson’s new motion, but she’s spoken about the emotional toll of co-parenting before. In a 2024 cover story for Glamour’s Woman of the Year issue, she said navigating parenting after a breakup is complicated and messy. “Nobody hands you a manual,” she admitted. “Each parent has a different life, and especially if the reason why you’re splitting up is because you have different lives, it’s only further complicated by how you’re going to co-parent.”
This latest clash between Joshua Jackson and Jodie Turner-Smith proves that while their marriage is over, the custody fight is far from finished. For now, all eyes are on the courtroom, as the Doctor Odyssey actor waits to see if the judge will side with him, and whether Juno will be forced to switch schools again. One thing’s for sure: this won’t be the last chapter in the Joshua Jackson custody battle.
