Julianne Hough Opens Up About Third Round of Egg Freezing Amid Endometriosis Battle

Julianne Hough is getting real about her fertility journey.

The Dancing With the Stars co-host just completed her third round of egg freezing, and she’s sharing it publicly to help other women feel less alone.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Julianne thanked Dr. Carolyn Alexander and the team at the Southern California Reproductive Center (SCRC), saying, “Navigating fertility is never simple, especially with endometriosis and my own personal timeline and hopes around having children… but with them, I’ve always felt safe, supported, and fully informed.”

Julianne was first diagnosed with endometriosis back in 2008. The condition, where tissue similar to the womb lining grows outside the uterus, often affects fertility. She’s been open in the past about her struggles with it, including two laparoscopic surgeries, with the second one done in 2017.

Now at 36, Julianne is on her third egg freezing cycle. While she admits it’s not easy to talk about, she believes the conversation matters. “It’s one of the most vulnerable experiences… physically, emotionally, and for sure hormonally,” she wrote. “But I’ve realized how important it is to open up about these things. Women all over the world are quietly walking into doctors’ offices, making huge, brave decisions about their bodies and their futures.”

Her post also included a raw behind-the-scenes video showing parts of the process. From self-administering daily hormone injections to giving herself the “trigger shot” that tells her body to release the eggs, she documented it all. At one point, she shares a quick clip after waking up on day six of the cycle, saying, “Hormones are kicking in, my boobs are getting bigger, everything is happening.”

Another clip shows her bloated belly, a common side effect of the hormone treatment. She jokingly said, “Look. It’s like a little pregger belly. Cutie.”

Julianne Hough’s egg freezing story adds a real, relatable voice to a topic many women face in silence. By sharing her fertility journey so openly, especially with the added complexity of endometriosis, she’s shining a light on what can often be an emotional and isolating experience.

She ended her message with a note of gratitude, writing, “If sharing just a small piece of my journey helps someone feel less alone, or inspires them to ask questions and explore what’s right for them, then I feel like it’s worth it.”

Julianne’s openness about her third egg freezing experience, especially as someone dealing with endometriosis, is empowering. Her willingness to be vulnerable is helping normalize fertility conversations, showing others that it’s okay to take control of their reproductive health, even if it means doing so multiple times.
