Karen Read Breaks Her Silence in Explosive New Docuseries Ahead of Retrial

Karen Read is finally speaking out. Before heading back to court for her high-profile retrial, Read is telling her side of the story in A Body in the Snow: The Trial of Karen Read, a three-part docuseries premiering March 17 on Investigation Discovery and Max.

The series dives deep into Read’s version of events surrounding the death of her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O’Keefe, who was found dead in a snowbank in January 2022. Prosecutors claim Read deliberately ran over O’Keefe with her SUV after a night of drinking. Read and her legal team insist she’s the victim of a massive cover-up by the Boston Police Department. Now, after years of media speculation and courtroom battles, Read is taking control of the narrative.

Inside the Explosive Docuseries

Filmed over 11 weeks during Read’s first trial, which ended in a mistrial in July 2024, the series provides unprecedented access to Read and her defense team. Director Terry Dunn Meurer, best known for Unsolved Mysteries, embedded her crew with Read throughout the trial, capturing the raw emotions behind the scenes.

Unlike traditional crime documentaries, this series is told almost entirely from Read’s perspective. She details the night of O’Keefe’s death, the charges against her, and why she believes she’s being framed. Her defense attorneys, including Alan Jackson, who previously represented Kevin Spacey, rip apart the prosecution’s case, questioning the validity of the evidence and arguing that O’Keefe may have been injured inside the house where he was last seen alive.

A Trial That Divided a Community

The case has rocked suburban Boston, with locals choosing sides. Some believe Read is guilty, pointing to her initial panic and statements the night of the incident. Others see her as a scapegoat, arguing that the Boston police are protecting their own. The docuseries lays out the battle lines and how the case became a media firestorm.

Notably absent from the series are O’Keefe’s parents and the prosecution team. The filmmakers insist they reached out but did not receive participation from those involved in the case against Read.

Karen Read’s Next Battle: Retrial Begins April 1

Read’s retrial starts April 1 in Dedham’s Norfolk County Superior Court. If convicted, she faces life in prison. With this docuseries, she hopes to win over the court of public opinion before the legal battle resumes.

Will A Body in the Snow change the course of her trial? Or is it just another chapter in one of the most controversial murder cases in recent memory? Either way, people will be watching.
