Katie Thurston is not holding anything back as she opens up about the realities of battling cancer.
Nearly four months after revealing she was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer, which has since progressed to stage four, the Bachelorette alum shared an unfiltered video on Instagram on June 1, giving fans a tough but honest update. From memory loss to hormonal struggles, it’s clear that Katie’s journey is far from easy.

In the video, Katie said something that stopped everyone in their tracks: she’s starting to lose her memory. “I’m losing my memory,” she admitted. She described a moment at customs where she was asked where she had just come from, and blanked completely. “I looked at him, and I was like, ‘I don’t remember. I don’t remember’,” she said. That moment was just one of several that made her realize how much her body and mind are changing.

She also shared another personal story with her husband, comedian Jeff Arcuri, whom she married earlier this year. The two had a small disagreement, and Katie was convinced they’d had the same fight before, but couldn’t remember when. “I was like, ‘This has happened before,’” she told him. “He was like, ‘When?’ I was like, ‘I don’t know, but I know it has!’” Thankfully, they’re able to laugh about it now, but the emotional weight is still heavy.
“Cancer is s–t,” Katie said plainly. “Sometimes I’m like, ‘Stop feeling bad for yourself.’ Other times I’m like, ‘You’re allowed to feel bad for yourself. Cancer f–king sucks.’” Her honesty is striking, and fans are rallying around her for keeping it real.
That’s not the only challenge she’s facing. Katie also revealed that her hair has been falling out in “unnatural” clumps, a common but still devastating side effect of treatment. She recently wrapped her second month of medication and is now having to make difficult decisions about her liver treatment. She’s chosen to move forward with histotripsy, a non-invasive procedure to treat liver tumors, at New York University.
The reality star said that while treatment technically lasts “forever,” she’s trying to stay hopeful. “I am optimistic about medical advancements in the future. Fingers crossed as a stage 4 girly,” she shared, holding onto that fighting spirit even through the darkest days.
June 2 was National Cancer Survivors Day, and Katie marked it with powerful words: “Every day that I’m alive, I’m a survivor. So go me, I guess.” Even though she’s dealing with daily setbacks, she’s still finding moments of strength and humor, and that’s what’s keeping her going.
But it’s not just physical or emotional, Katie’s also navigating complicated hormonal changes. She previously shared that she’d entered medically induced menopause. The medication designed to suppress her hormones didn’t work, and now she’s facing the very real possibility of having her ovaries removed. “Not ideal,” she said frankly. Still, she’s not letting that stop her from living life as best she can. “The vacation was nice. Now I’m back at it again in New York City trying to live my best life as a f–king cancer patient.”
Katie ended her video without editing anything out, raw and honest as ever. “Sorry, I’m not going to edit that out,” she said. “I’m just going to end this because I want it just to be my truth, I guess. Anyway, happy Sunday.”
From memory loss to major medical choices, Katie Thurston’s cancer battle is far more than what people see on the outside. Her vulnerability is both heartbreaking and inspiring, and she’s not afraid to show every side of it.
