Katie Thurston Says She Finally Feels Like Herself Again

Katie Thurston is giving fans a real, raw update, and surprisingly, it’s filled with some optimism.

The former Bachelorette star, who shocked her followers in February with the news of her breast cancer diagnosis, says she’s now “feeling the best” she has in months. In her words, the dust has finally settled, and there’s a sense of peace that comes with knowing exactly what her treatment plan looks like.

The 34-year-old reality personality revealed back in March that her diagnosis had progressed to stage 4, with the cancer spreading to her liver. But in a recent interview, Katie Thurston didn’t let that headline define her. Instead, she focused on how her perspective, and her energy, had shifted for the better. “I’m feeling the best I’ve ever felt in the last four months,” she told People magazine. “I know what my life’s supposed to look like. I know what my treatment’s going to look like.”

Still, that doesn’t mean it’s all smooth sailing. As part of her breast cancer treatment, Katie has entered a medically induced menopause, something she’s navigating with both humor and honesty. “Menopause is the worst,” she admits. “The hot flashes will get you; the irritability will get you.” She’s not sugarcoating it, just telling it like it is. And yes, she’s found some relief in acupuncture, which she swears by for managing the hot flashes naturally. “It’s interesting to be 34 and have to think about these symptoms,” she added.

With her husband, Jeff Arcuri, often out, Katie has made her own comfort the priority at home, AC blasting, fans on, and playing the classic hot flash game of “one leg out vs. two legs out” under the covers. She’s not shy about it either, joking that Jeff will just have to deal with her cooling setup when he returns.

Katie Thurston’s breast cancer update isn’t just about her own journey, it’s also about creating space for other young women going through the same thing. She wants people to know that menopause during cancer treatment is completely normal, and there’s absolutely no shame in it. “We’re fighting, and we’re doing what we need to do to fight,” she said. “If that means having a hot flash here or there, then so be it.”

She’s been sharing her story on her own platform, which she’s dubbed the Booby Broadcast, getting candid about everything from chemo to menopause to the emotional side of treatment. Her goal? To make the process a little less isolating, a little less scary, and way more real. “There’s a lot of power in sharing our true, organic stories with each other,” she explained. “That’s kind of what I’ve been doing, being open and vulnerable.”

Through it all, Katie Thurston’s breast cancer journey has become more than just a personal battle, it’s also become a way to reach others, educate, and maybe even make someone else feel seen. Even with a stage 4 diagnosis, she’s managing to find her rhythm, her peace, and even some humor in the chaos.
