Katy Perry’s space flight was as wild as you’d expect, and she’s not holding back on how “crazy” it was. The pop superstar recently took an 11-minute Blue Origin flight to the edge of space with an all-female crew, and even though she’s back on Earth, it sounds like she’s still processing the experience. Katy Perry texted fellow American Idol judge Luke Bryan right after she landed, simply calling the whole thing “totally crazy.” That’s it. No deep dive, no science talk, just “crazy,” which honestly feels on brand.
Luke says they haven’t had a real convo about it yet, but he’s eager to hear more straight from her. “She didn’t really elaborate,” he told E! News, “but I’m just glad everybody made it home safe.” Fair enough, space tourism isn’t exactly a chill Sunday plan. Even Ryan Seacrest was in awe, calling Katy brave and admitting he wouldn’t have the guts to pull it off himself.
Katy was joined on the flight by some seriously inspiring women, Gayle King, Lauren Sanchez, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen, and Kerianne Flynn. The trip might’ve been short, but it was historic. Lionel Richie, though? He was definitely not hopping on that rocket. “When she said she was going to space I said, ‘You go right on.’ I’ll stay right down here.” Same vibe from Carrie Underwood, who filled in for Katy on Idol while she was floating above the planet. She said it was amazing but made it clear she’s “good on the ground.”
But what really got people emotional? Katy brought a tiny daisy with her to space, a sweet tribute to her daughter Daisy. When she stepped out of the capsule, she held it up like it was her personal victory flag. Later, she told reporters that being a mom still tops everything, even a space flight. “I wanted to model courage, worthiness, and fearlessness,” she said. “This experience is second to being a mom.”
