Kevin Spacey is officially making his way back into the Hollywood spotlight with a brand-new role in the upcoming action-thriller “The Awakening.”
The 64-year-old actor, who’s been slowly reviving his career following his acquittal in a UK criminal trial last year, is joining a powerhouse cast for what’s shaping up to be a tense and twisty conspiracy thriller. His specific role hasn’t been revealed yet, but his inclusion in the project already has people talking.
Directed by Matt Routledge and shot at the legendary Pinewood Studios, The Awakening has been in the works since 2023 and is now deep into post-production. The film stars newcomer Justin Tinto and She’s Out of My League star Alice Eve as Jason and Rebecca, a duo caught in the middle of a global conspiracy that sends them on a race-against-time mission. It’s gritty, fast-paced, and packed with big names, and now Kevin Spacey adds even more fuel to that fire.
Alongside Spacey, the film also stars 70-year-old Peter Stormare (of Fargo and John Wick: Chapter 2 fame), 86-year-old Steve Berkoff (Red 2, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), 89-year-old Julian Glover (yes, from Indiana Jones and Game of Thrones), and Prizefighter actor Matt Hookings. Even former World’s Strongest Man and Expendables 4 star Eddie Hall is part of the mix. That’s one stacked ensemble, combining raw muscle, veteran talent, and fresh energy.
The Awakening is being produced by Camelot Films and Cloud9 Studios, with global sales set to kick off at this year’s Cannes Film Market. The screenplay is a joint effort by Justin Tinto, Matt Routledge, and Matt Hookings, with Tinto also serving as one of the producers. Executive producers include Justin Sally Woodward, Adrian Goodisman, and Pia Patatian.
Behind the scenes, it’s no less impressive. Editor Chris Gill (28 Days Later, Kneecap) is working his magic in post, while director of photography Laszlo Bille (Blade Runner 2049, Dune: Part One) is bringing that sleek, cinematic edge. Stunt coordination comes from Luke Tumber, whose action credentials include Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One and Venom: The Last Dance.
Since his acquittal in 2023, Kevin Spacey has mostly worked on European projects like Control and Peter Five Eight. But with The Awakening, it looks like he’s ready to re-enter the mainstream, and this conspiracy-fueled thriller could be the perfect stage for that comeback.
