Lizzo Reveals How She Fought Anxiety Without Pushing Through It

Lizzo conquered anxiety, and she’s finally talking about how she did it. The Grammy-winning star has always been open about her mental health journey, and now she’s giving fans a raw look into what really helped her come out the other side. In a recent TikTok Live, Lizzo shared that she’s been battling anxiety for years but found clarity through meditation and a very intentional kind of isolation. She didn’t just hide away, she removed distractions in a way that actually helped her focus on healing.

“I meditated. I calmed myself down. I isolated a little bit, but not like when I was depressed,” she said. “I had no distractions. I used to distract myself with people, food, drinking, even problems I created. I stopped doing that. I just focused on me.”

It’s a huge shift from how she was feeling not long ago. Lizzo recently opened up about a deep state of depression she fell into, especially after being hit with multiple lawsuits in 2023. Her former dancers accused her of misconduct, which she denied, but the backlash left her feeling like the world hated her. On the On Purpose podcast with Jay Shetty, she confessed, “I had this feeling that everybody hates me for something that isn’t true… I didn’t know how to fix it. I was dark and scared of people.”

But her healing didn’t stop with meditation. Lizzo also made changes in her day-to-day habits. She cut back on sugary drinks, ditching two to three Starbucks orders a day, and swapped sweets for more balanced snacks. “Everybody’s body is different,” she explained, adding that the real universal truth is simply “calories in versus calories out.”

As she gears up to release her next album, Love in Real Life, later this year, Lizzo revealed that some of the songs are “very dark” because of what she’s been through emotionally. But despite all the noise, she’s learning to tune it out and reclaim her joy, one mindful moment at a time.
