Pop culture just got a major peace treaty: Madonna and Sir Elton John have finally buried the hatchet after more than two decades of shade, snubs, and on-stage callouts.
Madonna, 66, dropped the surprise revelation in an Instagram post following Elton John’s performance on Saturday Night Live this past weekend. She wrote:
“We Finally Buried the Hatchet!!! I went to see Elton John perform on SNL this weekend!! WOW.”
What followed was a heartfelt reflection on how Elton’s music shaped her as a teen, including sneaking out in high school to catch his Detroit show, an experience she credits with transforming her life.
But this wasn’t just a nostalgic post. Madonna revealed that she went backstage to confront Elton face-to-face. His response? A simple but powerful: “Forgive me.”
“Within minutes, we were hugging,” Madonna wrote. “Then he told me he had written a song for me and wanted to collaborate. It was like everything came full circle!!”
This dramatic détente comes after years of public jabs. Elton famously trashed Madonna’s 2002 Bond theme Die Another Day, calling it the “worst Bond tune ever.” He didn’t stop there. At the 2004 Q Awards, he launched into a blistering rant:
“Madonna, best live act? F*** off. Since when has lip-syncing been live? Everyone who lip-syncs on stage should be shot.”
At the time, Madonna’s team responded with grace, saying she doesn’t lip-sync and adding Elton was still on her Christmas card list “whether he is nice or naughty.”
Now, in a full-circle moment worthy of its own documentary, it seems the pop legends are ready to trade barbs for bars, musical ones.

The potential collaboration is already generating serious buzz online. While neither artist has confirmed a track title or release date, fans are salivating over the idea of the two icons teaming up on a record.
As Madonna put it in her post:
“And you can tell everybody, this is your song.”
Forgiveness, nostalgia, and maybe even a future banger, this is one reunion no one saw coming, and everyone’s here for it.
