Maren Morris is opening up about something deeply personal, and fans are loving how honest she’s being.
The country-pop singer recently shared how she felt going into her very first date with a woman, and let’s just say, nerves were definitely part of the story. The Grammy-winning artist, who came out as bisexual last year, admitted that she didn’t know what to expect, but the experience ended up being surprisingly easy and incredibly rewarding. Maren Morris’ first date with a woman wasn’t just a milestone, it turned out to be a three-hour hang filled with connection.
Speaking on the ‘U Up?’ podcast, Maren got candid about the whole thing. “I had never been on a date with a woman. So, of course, I’m going to be like, ‘What the hell does this look like?’” she said. But as it turns out, all that anxiety melted away. “It was so easy,” she added. “Ended up being like a three-hour hang.”
The 35-year-old artist, known for hits like Girl, has found that dating women brings out a totally different emotional energy than dating men. She explained that with women, things get deep really fast. “I can connect with a woman, any woman, within like two minutes, and we’ll be talking about our childhoods,” she said. “With a guy, that would take, like, years to get into that trauma.” That emotional depth, she believes, comes from women being naturally great at building community through shared stories, vulnerability, and even gossip. “It’s a survival technique,” she said. “We cling together out of vulnerabilities.”
Still, that emotional closeness can make things a little confusing. Maren admitted that sometimes it’s tough to figure out whether there’s romantic chemistry or if it’s just a really intense friendship. “Women can connect so quickly and easily, which is a magical thing about us,” she said. “But that’s the comparison, I guess, to dating men, right? Because I’ve been there. It’s like, I have enough friends. I think I’m good. I’m looking for something beyond that.” But sometimes, she said, the spark just isn’t there, regardless of gender.
Outside of dating, Maren has been navigating life post-divorce with her ex-husband, singer Ryan Hurd. The two share a five-year-old son named Hayes and have worked out a solid co-parenting arrangement. “Our stops are really easy, and we’ll have family dinners,” she recently told The Zoe Report. It helps that they live just five minutes apart, which makes the transition easier on their son.
Hayes spends alternate weeks with each parent, which has given Maren both chaos and calm in her home life. “Those weeks I have him, the house is full of chaos and energy and laughter and scraped knees,” she said. “And then, when he is not there, you have to recalibrate your aloneness because you’re like, ‘Wow, this is just me in here now.’” But instead of letting that solitude get overwhelming, she’s embraced it. “That’s when I’ve leaned into it and not been drowned by my own company,” she explained.
Maren Morris’ first date with a woman was clearly a big step for her, not just romantically, but emotionally too. By sharing her experience, she’s giving fans and followers a glimpse into what it’s like to explore new parts of yourself while also managing family, fame, and healing. And let’s be honest, it takes guts to put that kind of vulnerability out there. But if there’s one thing Maren’s fans know, it’s that she’s never been afraid to speak her truth.
