Mason Gooding and Kevin Hart Team Up for Wedding Comedy

Mason Gooding is heading to Miami, and this time it’s not to wear a Ghostface mask. The Scream star has officially joined Kevin Hart’s upcoming Netflix comedy 72 Hours, where he’ll play the groom in what’s shaping up to be a wild bachelor party weekend.

Gooding, 28, has carved out a name for himself in horror, but he’s switching lanes for this project. In 72 Hours, he stars alongside Saturday Night Live’s Marcello Hernandez, who takes on the role of the best man and self-proclaimed “bachelor party captain.” The story kicks off when Kevin Hart’s character, a 40-year-old executive, is accidentally added to a group chat with a crew of twenty-somethings planning a chaotic three-day bachelor bash in Miami.

Directed by Ride Along’s Tim Story and penned by Matt Mider, Kevin Burrows, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg, the film promises high-energy humor and classic Hart chaos. It’s currently shooting in Miami, and is one of the key projects under a partnership between Sony Pictures and Netflix that gives Netflix first dibs on Sony’s streaming content.

Hart is producing through his Hartbeat company alongside Davis Entertainment, and according to Deadline, the movie became a major priority once both Hart and Story signed on. With their proven chemistry from past projects, Netflix sees 72 Hours as a potential comedy hit.

For Gooding, this role marks a sharp turn from his Scream franchise fame. He’s set to return as Chad Meeks-Martin in Scream 7, which hits theaters in February 2026. The upcoming installment will be directed by Scream creator Kevin Williamson, who is known for pushing horror boundaries, and this time looks no different.

Speaking to Variety, Gooding teased that Scream 7 is “the most brutal” the franchise has ever been. He added that there’s one prosthetic effect so disturbing, it made him queasy in the makeup trailer. “You’ll know what I’m talking about when you see it,” he said, calling the film “gross, but in a good way.”

The actor is especially excited about working with Neve Campbell, who returns as Sidney Prescott. “Even just getting to be around her feels like I’m getting part of that history,” Gooding shared.

But before fans see him face off against Ghostface again, they’ll catch him swapping horror for hilarity in 72 Hours. Between the Miami setting, Kevin Hart’s energy, and a cast full of rising talent, the movie is shaping up to be a fun ride.

Mason Gooding in 72 Hours might just be the breakout comedy moment that balances his horror resume, and proves he’s more than just a scream king.
