Megan Fox is returning to horror, lending her voice to Toy Chica in Universal and Blumhouse’s hotly awaited follow-up to the 2023 box office blockbuster “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.”
The movie will release in theaters on December 5, taking the terror back to the haunted corridors of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza – and this time, staying alive appears even more frightening.
The reveal happened at Jason Blum’s BlumFest panel at New York Comic-Con, where spectators received a hint at what is to come from the Blumhouse world, including development news on Black Phone 2, Sleep Awake, the next video game, and, of course, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.
Welcoming Fox to the voice cast are MatPat as Toy Bonnie and Kellen Goff as Toy Freddy, adding to the list of terrifying animatronic characters set to traumatize a fresh group of victims. Fox’s casting as Toy Chica brings high-octane star power and an unsettling dimension to the film’s cast, her first big horror franchise role since Jennifer’s Body made her the go-to cult horror star.
Back to direct is Emma Tammi, who directed the first film that brought the popular – and horrific – video game to the big screen. Josh Hutcherson returns, too, as the night security guard who had battled Freddy and his killer animatronic companions before. He’ll be joined again by Matthew Lillard, Elizabeth Lail, and Piper Rubio, all of whom return from the first film.
The studio has kept mum about the complete roster of returning animatronic enemies for the sequel, but a fresh tagline suggests a more sinister, more merciless tone:
“Anyone can survive five nights. This time, there will be no second chances.”
That foreboding line paves the way for an even grimmer and more psychological sequel, probably delving deeper into the deranged lore of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza – where nostalgia crosses paths with nightmares.
The initial Five Nights at Freddy’s movie, which debuted in October 2023, demonstrated that horror game players were a force to be reckoned with at the movies. The film collected $297 million globally, becoming Blumhouse’s biggest-grossing film to date, even while it streamed simultaneously on Peacock. Its combination of suspense, nostalgia, and jump-scare fright resonated with both fans of the original video game franchise and newcomers.
Fox’s casting has already generated buzz among fans, who can’t wait to see how she’ll interpret Toy Chica. With her talent for bringing danger, sex appeal, and humor to the screen, her character is sure to introduce fresh depth to the franchise’s creepy atmosphere.
Megan Fox has lately been juggling with varied projects from across genres. She was opposite Michele Morrone in Millennium Media’s thriller Subservience and also featured in Amazon’s comedy series Overcompensating. Other highlights include the dark comedy Till Death, Netflix’s Night Teeth, indie fantasy Big Gold Brick, and the action film The Expendables 4.
With Fox teaming up with Hutcherson and Tammi, Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 poised to raise the ante on star power and terror. Franchise enthusiasts can anticipate the evil animatronics, creepy nostalgia, and another installment in Blumhouse’s record-breaking horror series.
