Meghan Markle Is More Influential Than People Think, Says Netflix CEO
Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos is setting the record straight – Meghan Markle isn’t just a royal figure; she’s a cultural powerhouse. In a recent interview with Variety, Sarandos spoke about Netflix’s partnership with Prince Harry and Meghan, highlighting the Duchess’s undeniable influence on global trends.
Meghan’s Cultural Impact: “She’s Underestimated”
Since signing their massive $100 million Netflix deal in 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have produced hit projects like the record-breaking docuseries Harry & Meghan. However, Sarandos believes Meghan’s true power extends beyond viewership numbers.
“I think Meghan is underestimated in terms of her influence on culture,” he explained. “When we dropped the trailer for Harry & Meghan, everything she wore sold out worldwide. People are fascinated with Meghan Markle.”
With Love, Meghan: A Solo Success
Meghan’s latest project, With Love, Meghan, premiered earlier this month, making Netflix’s global top 10. With a second season already filmed and set to release this fall, the series marks her first solo endeavor under Archewell Productions.
Netflix’s Stake in Meghan’s New Lifestyle Brand
Beyond TV, Netflix is also backing Meghan’s new lifestyle brand, As ever. This marks the streaming giant’s first step into e-commerce, with Meghan launching a collection of teas, jams, and home goods in the U.S. this spring.
“We’re a passive partner in Meghan’s company,” Sarandos revealed. “It’s a big discovery model for us right now.”
Will Netflix Renew Harry and Meghan’s Deal?
With the Sussexes’ Netflix deal set to expire this year, speculation is growing about a renewal. Sarandos remained tight-lipped but hinted at their long-term approach.
“I don’t want to comment on renewals,” he said. “In general, these partnerships are bespoke and based on output.”
Meghan’s Life Beyond Netflix
In a separate interview with PEOPLE, Meghan shared insights into her home life with Prince Harry and their children, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3. The couple enjoys “day dates” with their kids and unwinds at night with their favorite TV shows.
“We love Shrinking; we just finished Black Doves, and we’re excited for the new season of The White Lotus,” Meghan revealed.
