Ryan Reynolds Fires Back at Justin Baldoni’s $400M Lawsuit
Ryan Reynolds is pushing back hard against Justin Baldoni’s massive $400 million lawsuit, calling it nothing more than “clickbait” and an attempt to stir controversy. The Deadpool star has officially filed a motion to dismiss, arguing that Baldoni’s case lacks substance and is driven by personal grievances rather than legal merit.
Reynolds’ Legal Stand Against Baldoni
According to Reynolds’ legal team, Baldoni’s claim is based on little more than two alleged instances where Reynolds called him a “predator.” The filing states that Baldoni has failed to prove Reynolds did not believe these statements to be true, making the defamation claim legally weak.
The Origins of the Feud
The conflict between Baldoni and Reynolds escalated following Blake Lively’s sexual harassment and retaliation complaint against Baldoni and his company, Wayfarer Studios, in December 2024. Shortly after, a New York Times exposé painted a damning picture of Baldoni’s alleged behavior, leading to a defamation and extortion lawsuit from Baldoni and his associates.
Reynolds’ lawyers argue that the case is riddled with vague accusations and lacks substantial evidence. “This lawsuit is not about legal claims; it’s about Baldoni trying to retaliate against people who spoke out against him,” Reynolds’ legal representatives stated.
Blake Lively’s Role in the Case
Lively, who also filed a lawsuit against Baldoni, has accused him of harassment and workplace misconduct. Baldoni’s legal team has fired back, claiming a coordinated smear campaign by Lively, Reynolds, and PR firms, alleging that they have used media influence to damage his reputation.
Reynolds Calls It a ‘Gossip Rag’ Case
In his filing, Reynolds described Baldoni’s complaint as a “gossip rag” filled with baseless accusations and personal vendettas rather than legitimate legal claims. He also pointed out that Baldoni’s team is demanding $400 million in damages without specifying how the alleged defamation led to such financial losses.
SLAPP Suit Allegations
Reynolds’ legal team argues that this lawsuit is a textbook example of a Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation (SLAPP), meant to silence critics rather than address actual legal grievances. They have requested the court dismiss the case with prejudice, preventing Baldoni from re-filing similar claims in the future.
As the case unfolds, it has captivated the entertainment industry. Reynolds, Lively, and other defendants are actively pushing for dismissal, while Baldoni’s camp remains firm in their claims. The trial is currently set for March 9, 2026.
With Hollywood’s biggest names entangled in this legal dispute, the outcome could set a precedent for similar high-profile defamation cases. Will Reynolds successfully walk away from this lawsuit, or will Baldoni’s claims gain traction in court?
