Sebastian Stan and Leo Woodall are teaming up for a powerful new role in “Burning Rainbow Farm”, and it’s nothing like you’ve seen from them before.
The Thunderbolts star and White Lotus breakout will lead Justin Kurzel’s upcoming thriller based on the tragic and true events that unfolded in rural Michigan in 2001. This intense story is centered around Tom Crosslin and Rollie Rohm, a gay couple whose peaceful marijuana farm turned into ground zero for one of the most explosive police and FBI standoffs in American history.
Sebastian Stan will play Tom, with Leo Woodall taking on the role of his partner Rollie. Their lives are turned upside down after local authorities target them and take away their son, setting off a five-day siege at their Rainbow Farm property. The siege, which happened just days before 9/11, became one of the most dramatic law enforcement operations of its time. The screenplay is by Tommy Murphy and is adapted from Dean Kuipers’ book detailing the real events.
Director Justin Kurzel described Burning Rainbow Farm as a love story wrapped in resistance. “It’s about two outliers raising their middle finger to hate,” he said, promising that Sebastian and Leo’s chemistry will bring this bold, emotional fight to life. “Their union will be one to remember,” Kurzel added.
Sebastian Stan is still riding the Marvel wave as Bucky Barnes in Thunderbolts, but he’s clearly flexing different acting muscles here. Speaking recently about his role in Thunderbolts, he said Bucky now feels like an older, worn-down guy trying to find his way again. Drawing inspiration from Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven, he shared that Bucky’s dry humor and wisdom now come from a place of exhaustion rather than arrogance.
He also opened up about the strange but compelling anti-hero dynamics in Thunderbolts, which sees Bucky team up with the Red Guardian, Yelena Belova, John Walker, and Ghost. “Are they villains? Are they heroes? They’re trying to figure it out, just like Bucky,” Sebastian said, adding that these blurred lines make the characters more interesting.
But with Burning Rainbow Farm, Sebastian Stan and Leo Woodall are shifting from morally grey superheroes to real-life figures who were caught in a fight far more personal, and deadly. This isn’t just another gritty drama; it’s a raw story about love, identity, and the consequences of being different in the wrong place at the wrong time.
