HGTV star Tarek El Moussa has found himself in legal hot water after a heated altercation in Las Vegas led to a battery citation.
The 43-year-old Flip or Flop personality allegedly got into a physical fight with a man at the Venetian hotel and casino on June 5.
According to an incident report from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, El Moussa was cited for battery after allegedly pushing and punching a man in the head multiple times. While he wasn’t arrested, the report notes that the alleged victim had visible injuries, including bruising under his right eye and a cut on the bridge of his nose.
Tarek’s attorneys, David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld, issued a statement defending their client. “Tarek intends to contest these allegations in a court of law where he will assert his right to self-defence and the defence of his elderly and infirmed father,” they said.
The situation reportedly began when Tarek’s father, who was sitting at a roulette table, got into a brief exchange with another man. Surveillance footage reviewed by police shows that the older man became visibly upset after possibly being bumped into by the other person. At some point, the man touched Tarek’s dad on the shoulder, which seemed to spark the incident.
Tarek, witnessing the interaction, reportedly reacted by charging at the man and shoving him. The report states the man shoved back, and the two appeared to square up. Footage then shows the other man attempting a takedown move, going for El Moussa’s legs. At that moment, Tarek allegedly struck him with his knee and then delivered three punches to the man’s head while he was on the ground.
The alleged victim told officers he was sitting at the roulette table when a stranger hit him. He couldn’t give precise details about how or how many times he was struck but made it clear he wanted to press charges.
El Moussa, on the other hand, told police the man had hit his father on the back, prompting his response. He declined to go into further detail without a lawyer.
While the footage reviewed doesn’t give a completely clear view of the entire altercation, the report suggests it largely aligns with El Moussa’s account, showing him reacting only after his father was touched.
As the case moves forward, El Moussa plans to assert self-defense. Whether this incident results in formal charges or further legal fallout remains to be seen.
This isn’t the first time a public figure has faced scrutiny for behavior off-camera, but for fans of Flip or Flop, it’s a surprising twist involving one of HGTV’s most well-known personalities.
