Ike Turner Jr., son of music icons Tina Turner and Ike Turner, died at 67 years old a day after his birthday.
The singer passed away Saturday, October 4, at a Los Angeles hospital, according to family member Jacqueline Bullock, who revealed the devastating news to TMZ.
Bullock confirmed that Ike Jr. passed away due to kidney failure following years of poor health. She told that he had been struggling with severe heart complications and had also had a stroke last month. In a sad statement to Page Six, she added, “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of my cousin, Ike Turner Jr.”. Junior was more than just a cousin to me, but a brother since we both came of age in the same legendary household together.”
Tina and Ike Turner Sr. had a tumultuous past both in their personal lives and in their music. The two had four children together. Tina had Ike Sr.’s sons, Ike Jr. and Michael, from his former relationship with Lorraine Taylor. The two later had their one biological child together, Ronnie Turner, while Tina bore a son named Raymond Craig from her previous relationship with singer Raymond Hill.
Ike Jr.’s passing is another tragedy for the Turner family. His mother, Tina Turner, passed away in May 2023 at age 83 following a long illness, while his father, Ike Turner Sr., died in December 2007 due to a cocaine overdose at age 76. Ike Jr. was also predeceased by his brothers – Craig, who took his own life in 2018, and Ronnie, who died of colon cancer in 2022. Now Ike Jr. joins them on the list of late Turners.
In her eulogy, Bullock described Ike Jr.’s musical genius and his affinity for the Turner legacy. “Being the son of Tina and Ike Turner, from a young age, his abilities were apparent as there wasn’t a single instrument he did not wish to play,” she stated. After favoring the drums at first, my aunt and his mother, Tina Turner, required him to dismantle his drum kit after every practice. He thus came to prefer the keys.”
Bullock added that Ike Jr. later played a significant part in the family’s music empire, assisting in the management of Bolic Sound Studios, which his father had established as a recording studio. In spite of the numerous challenges he encountered during his life, Ike Jr. made his own mark in the music industry. He rose to be a well-known sound engineer and musician, even clinching a Grammy Award for Best Traditional Blues Album in 2007 for working on his father’s Risin’ With The Blues.
Bullock thanked everyone for the sympathy received by the Turner family following his death, that they were “appreciative of the outpouring of sympathy.”

Ike Jr.’s sister-in-law, Afida Turner – widow of his late brother Ronnie – also expressed her sadness online with a poignant Instagram tribute. “REST IN PEACE IKE JR : U WAS AMAZING BROTHER IN LAW I M GLAD I SPEAK WITH U ON A PHONE BEFORE U GONE LOVE U RIP 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻,” she posted in addition to a string of pictures of the two together over the years.
Ike Turner Jr.’s death is another sad chapter for one of music’s most legendary families. Despite spending much of his life away from the spotlight, his unassuming commitment to music and his family’s legacy will always be in our hearts.
