Tommy Dorfman has officially filed for divorce from Elise Williams, marking the end of a relationship that started with a whirlwind romance and a secret Malibu wedding.
The Love, Victor actress confirmed the split just under two years after they tied the knot in private. It’s a quiet close to what was once a deeply passionate, if fast-paced, love story.
Back in 2023, Dorfman revealed that she had fallen in love again, this time with a “gay girl,” as she put it in her candid Vogue essay. This came after her previous marriage to Peter Zurkuhlen. At the time, she kept Williams’ identity under wraps, choosing to speak instead about the emotional depth of her new relationship and the experience of falling in love again as a trans woman.
In that Vogue essay, Dorfman wrote about how they took things slow despite their emotional fast track. “We waited a full 12 months before moving in together,” she said, though the two had already adopted a Great Dane puppy after just six months. “That’s the thing about falling in love, though,” she admitted. “Your responsibility barometer isn’t always where it should be. Love, for us, required that nauseating combination of naiveté, delusion, and fate.”
By May 2024, Dorfman finally let the world in on their little secret, they had eloped at the end of 2023. In a since-deleted Instagram post, she shared, “I married my best friend and didn’t tell anyone except @hunterabrams, who came and photographed us towards the end of last year.” They bought their own dresses from Dover Street Market New York, a place Dorfman once worked before acting, and made their vows official with only a few close friends in the know.
Their decision to elope was spontaneous. According to her Vogue account, it happened while the two were perched above the Malibu shoreline, casually joking about same-day marriages. A quick Google search revealed that California allowed confidential, same-day weddings. So they did it, got married before heading off to a concert later that night.
What made this relationship feel so different for Dorfman, she said, was how safe she felt. “I fell in love with someone who doesn’t fetishize me,” she shared, hinting at the emotional toll of dating as a trans woman. For a moment, it all seemed like a dream, quiet, joyful, and real.
But dreams sometimes fade. Less than five months before officially filing for divorce, Dorfman dropped a few cryptic clues about the breakup in a reflective Instagram post. Sharing a set of random memories from 2024, she included a bare-faced selfie with the caption, “Heartbreak feels good in a place like this (I wrote this entirely original line),” a nod to Nicole Kidman’s now-iconic AMC commercial.
One of the more telling slides featured her dog Fiona, with a caption noting the pup was “managing better than I” in their new home, where it was “just the two of us.” Another image showed her leg in a mirror selfie that Dorfman said she sent to a boy who didn’t respond, “so that’s good,” she wrote, in classic post-breakup dry humor.
Now, as Tommy Dorfman officially ends her marriage to Elise Williams, fans are left reflecting on the beautifully messy honesty that’s always defined her public journey. From the rush of eloping to the rawness of heartbreak, she’s kept it as real as anyone navigating love in the spotlight.
