The final episode of 1923 Season 2 has landed – a two-hour finale full of drama, bloodshed, and big questions. But the one thing fans are dying to know: is there going to be a Season 3?
Right now, there’s no official word from Paramount+. And based on what 1923 creator Taylor Sheridan said back in 2022, that might be intentional. Sheridan made it clear then that this prequel to Yellowstone was always meant to be told in two parts – two 8-episode blocks, ending the Dutton origin story for good.
But that was before Season 2 pulled in massive numbers. The finale drew over 17 million global viewers, and overall streaming was up 56% compared to Season 1. That kind of success can make even the most “limited” series look like a cash cow.
So far, the cast hasn’t said much. Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren are keeping quiet, while Brandon Sklenar (Spencer Dutton) told The Hollywood Reporter that it’s all one complete story: “It’s still limited, but I think of it as one piece – there’s just a split in the middle.”
In other words, don’t expect a third season. But the Yellowstone universe is far from over.
There’s already another prequel in the pipeline – 1944 – which will continue the Dutton family saga just a few years later. And Sheridan’s spinoff featuring Beth and Rip is officially moving forward now that Yellowstone has wrapped.
As for how 1923 ends? It’s not all sunshine and cowboy rides into the sunset. We’ve got Alexandra stranded in the freezing wilderness, Spencer walking into a trap, and Donald Whitfield still dead set on turning the Dutton land into a ski resort.
The good news: the finale gave us some closure. The bad news? No guarantee we’ll see these characters again.
So while fans hold out hope for a surprise renewal, all signs point to 1923 ending exactly where Sheridan planned – and opening the door for the next Dutton chapter.
