Liverpool fans might still be partying after being crowned as the Premier League champions, but Arne Slot saw it coming months ago.
The 46-year-old Dutch manager admitted after Liverpool’s massive 5-1 win over Tottenham on Sunday (April 27, 2025) that he knew this Premier League title was theirs for a long time. Speaking to Sky Sports, Slot was refreshingly honest:
“A long time, to be honest. For almost the whole season we were on top of the league, and we had the team that was able to win it.”
While other teams stumbled, Liverpool just kept rolling. Slot even pointed out that Manchester City’s rare dip in form played a big part too:
“It helped that Man City had a difficult spell, which they hadn’t had in five years. That helped us a bit as well.”
In just his first season in charge, Slot has delivered Liverpool’s 20th English league title — and it wasn’t even close. After demolishing Spurs at Anfield, they made sure Arsenal, sitting second, couldn’t catch them, no matter what.
At the beginning of the season, most people would have been thrilled with just a Top 4 finish, especially after the turbulence of recent years. But Slot knew his squad was capable of more.
“That wasn’t fair for our players, who are much better than that.”
One major difference compared to Liverpool’s last title win in 2020? The fans were actually there this time. Back then, COVID-19 stole the celebrations. Not this time.
“You can feel how important it was for them to be here,” Slot said. “The boys did an outstanding job today, including our fans.”
With a packed Anfield roaring them on, it was the perfect ending to a dominant season. No last-minute drama, no slip-ups. Just champions doing what champions do.
And if Arne Slot had his way, Liverpool’s reign might just be getting started after being crowned as champions.
