The journey of Dutch DJ/ Producer – Dyro, to the upper ranks of the electronic music scenes marks him out amongst his peers as one of the most talented artists to have emerged from the new generation of Dutch house artists currently taking over the industry.
Up next for the maestro is a visit to the “City Of Joy” – Kolkata, to play at the We Are Connected Festival, 2017, a show presented by Whats in D Name and Blue Olive Studios, and conceptualised by ALDA | Envision.
We caught up with Jordy and spoke to him about his upcoming visit to India, and what fans can look forward to his performance. Read our chat, below.
T.H.E – Hi Dyro! How’s it going and what have you been upto?
Dyro – It’s going great, thanks! Relaxing in Amsterdam and getting ready for my Asia and Indian dates – I’ve also just released a dope track on my label WOLV from Julian Calor & Reabeau called ‘Lost In Nightlife’ that I decided to do some edits on to give it a more bombastic sound. The original was sick anyway, and I’m glad we could add some more bite.
T.H.E – You will be playing at the We Are Connected Festival, Kolkata in a few days’ time! Are you Excited?
Dyro – Not long to go now and yes, India is super fun! Hot and sweaty but great to see the Indian fans get down at my shows – plus the festival has a pretty big line-up with Armin and Sander Van Doorn so I’m excited to be the one to bring the bass!
T.H.E – What are your fondest memories of India ever since you came here for the first time?
Dyro – My last gig here was at Kitty Su in October and was crazy! I always like to try and work on some new edits, even if I’ve not got any forthcoming music in particular to play out, it’s important to me to keep things fresh and exciting – that’s what I’m always trying to do and the Indian audiences are very appreciative of that.
T.H.E – What can fans expect from your set at WAC Kolkata 2017?
Dyro – New projects, old classics, energy, fun, in your face bass!
T.H.E – It’s been quite sometime since you ditched the old electro-house sound and have sort of embraced the darker sounds. How has the transition been for you? How have your fans responded to it?
Dyro – Yeah it’s been quite a while now so the fans, even those that took a bit of time to get used to the harder sounds, are well aware of the fact that I still play some electro and EDM-influenced tracks, that’s where I started out and what I learnt my craft with, do you know what I mean? But the harsher sounds are also incorporated into that as my set so there has been something for everyone. The transition for me was sort of slow, because I had to get a new management team on board to totally get my vision and that took time, working out plans which has a knock-on effect for bookings and stuff, but in terms of music, I’ve always been into hip-hop, dubstep and bass; those are just part of my spectrum and on my radar as an artist. It’s dope to have the freedom to do what I do and the belief of those around me.
T.H.E – 2017 must have been quite a busy year for you. What can we expect from Dyro in 2018?
Dyro – New music dropping in January! Watch out, it’s a big one…
T.H.E – Now for some fun ones. Your favourite character from Game Of thrones.
Dyro – Hodor, he DJ’s now too hahahaha
T.H.E – In one sentence, how would you sum up the internet?
Dyro – Amazing and irritating
T.H.E – Which is the hardest thing you ever had to do?
Dyro – Grow up fast
T.H.E – Your favourite movie, comic character and country to visit.
Dyro – Intouchables, Goku (dragon ball), Japan
T.H.E – Thanks Dyro! Hope you have a great time here in India.
