“Peking Duk not only tastes good, but it sounds even better.”

Australian duo Peking Duk (Reuben Styles & Adam Hyde), together with vocalist Aluna Francis of UK duo AlunaGeorge recently released their brand new single, Fake Magic.

Check out our chat below where the duo talk about ‘Fake Magic’, importance of vocals and finding MH370!

T.H.E – Hey guys! Thanks for taking the time out for this interview. How’s it going?

Adam Hyde – The pleasure is all ours! We’re great, been rehearsing our all new live show day in day out and have some more music coming everyone’s way real soon.

T.H.E – Congratulations on the release of ‘Fake Magic’ with AlunaGeorge. How did it come about?

Reuben Styles – We had the idea from the start that she was the one for this tune. So we got the beat together and really sharpened and polished it before sending to Aluna to gather interest… She came back fairly quickly and we honestly couldn’t believe she was keen. It was a great moment, she wanted to skype us straight away and chat about the song.

T.H.E – How was it working with AlunaGeorge?

Adam Hyde – We conversed with Aluna via skype and she absolutely nailed it in the studio. They are amazing.

T.H.E – How important do you think, are the vocals to any track? Like does it add more value compared to an instrumental? And how do you guys plan for this (vocal vs pure instrumental), in the production process?

Reuben Styles – Some songs without vocals are incredible. Some of my favourite songs are indeed instrumentals like Murderers by John Frusciante or Classical Gas… But soooo many songs without a beat or any backing music are amazing, Because by The Beatles is one of my fav songs of all time.

T.H.E – The summer season has kick-started officially! What are your plans on the touring front?

Adam Hyde – We’re debuting our new live show at Splendour in the Grass, then off to USA to bring it out there. We can’t wait to share what we’ve been working on!

T.H.E – Which 10 tracks according to you, must be on the playlist for every dance music fan?

Reuben Styles – In no real order, these tracks are among the ones got us into dance music so I feel everyone else should get to experience them now too.

T.H.E – Time for a few quick, and fun ones. If you had to change your name, what would your new name be, and why would you choose that name?

Adam Hyde – Quincy Mcguigan the 5th (Jazz cat man) – cos he knows how shake n move… kinda like james brown on heat.

T.H.E – If you could know the absolute and total truth to one question, what question would you ask?

Adam Hyde – WHERE IS MH370?!

T.H.E – Thanks guys! Wish you the very best.

Adam Hyde – Massive love and see you soon legends.
