Collective Machine talks about the pandemic, new album ‘EPOCH’, 2022 plans & more.

T.H.E – Welcome to T.H.E – Music Essentials! What has got you through the last two years? How did you keep yourself motivated to produce music?

Collective Machine – Hey guys! Thank you for having me! Whatever happens, music has always been and will always be a part of my life, it was hard to find the right inspirations and luckily things are getting better.

T.H.E – Did you enjoy your time away from Djing or did you long to be back behind the decks?

Collective Machine – The positive is that I was able to spend more time with my family and maybe I can better appreciate what I have achieved and that motivates me to work even harder.

T.H.E – Tell us about your new album EPOCH. How long were you working on it for and what inspired you to create it?

Collective Machine – A lot of projects came together in 2020, when the idea popped out of my mind, that this could be put together into a big album. It’s hard to say exactly how long it took, but it was written in about 6 months.

T.H.E – It’s an eclectic mix of sounds, is that something you always envisioned or did it come naturally?

Collective Machine – The musical concept was that I was immersed in the things I socialized at the beginning. I tried to mix this with the sounds I’ve experienced over the 16-18 years of my career and wrap it all up in a modern robe with my current sound. So, I think it has become very special, combining my past with my present and my future.

T.H.E – What is your process like when producing? How do you come up with new ideas?

Collective Machine – I’m always full of ideas, I’ve listened to a lot of styles (of music )in my life, almost anything can inspire me. In the process, I tend to experiment with the themes and then the drum sections are based on them, then the structure comes, after I tend to add the little spices.

T.H.E – What equipment did you use to produce the album?

Collective Machine – I used external instruments several times for drums and basses, and we used a physical resonator for two vocals, but it’s no secret… that I’m a big plugin fan, so they’re on a bigger proportion on the album. It would take a lot of time to make a list.

T.H.E – Have you been able to road test the tracks in your DJ sets yet? If so, what has the reaction been like?

Collective Machine – I tested them many times and my set from Akvárium club includes 7 out of the 13 tracks, which all got very good reactions!

T.H.E – Is there anything you would like to see change within the dance music scene?

Collective Machine – All that I want to see right now is to get our old freedom back globally.

T.H.E – What do you have coming up in 2022 that you can tell us about?

Collective Machine – Now I am focusing on the release of the album, of course . There are a lot of other productions on the way , but that’s the music of the future.
