Drival

Drival is the Spanish DJ and producer who continues to impress. His latest release ‘I Got You’ has just been released on acclaimed label AVA Recordings, adding to his high calibre catalogue of incredible originals he has released this year.

It takes a certain kind of talent to continually produce magic in the way that Drival does, but some how he manages it. We caught up with the artist to learn a bit more about the music background he has, and ask some seriously tough questions!

T.H.E – DJing or producing?

Drival – Choosing between these two is unfair ;-) Production is something that takes time and wakes up your inner creative self, like cooking a nice meal slowly. DJing is the reward, goose bumps with the crowd. Like tasting that meal!

T.H.E – Analogue or digital?

Drival – I grew up in the analogue era of Electronic music, and I really find it more rewarding. Romantic, even. Nevertheless, it’s undeniable that digital features have made our job way easier. So I would say analogue approach with digital execution!

T.H.E – Single or album?

Drival – At this moment I feel more towards the single releasing, so that I can focus on one track at the time and it gives me the freedom to change the spirit and taste of my next one.

I think that an album should speak about a theme, somehow. Obviously all the tracks contained on it would be different, but in my opinion there has to be a common thread linking the message you want to put out there.

T.H.E – Live recording or midi arrangement?

Drival – Option A for sure! When it comes to feelings related to music, nothing can compare to what you do live. It keeps the natural part of things. We tend to do whatever necessary until everything is perfect in every way, and sometimes you may find beauty in the natural, spontaneous things (although thank God we have room for arrangements later! haha).

T.H.E – Collaborations or solo work?

Drival – When you are on your own the outcome is 100% you, and that is something very nice… but I believe that it’s more rewarding when you achieve something with someone. In fact, when you work with someone else that person comes up with ideas you never even thought of! And making each other get a step further is really nice.

T.H.E – Guitar or piano?

Drival – I’ve never taken lessons for either of them, but even though I love piano and I enjoy playing it with the keyboard for Trance productions, I have to admit that some beautiful guitar notes give me chills. In fact, this question reminds me that I want to play more guitars in Trance tracks!

T.H.E – Finally – new Drival or old Drival?

Drival – Always new. Learn from the mistakes you made (we all mess things up somehow) but go for the new by aiming beyond your limits!

T.H.E – Thanks Drival!
