DJ/Producer HAJJ discuss their new single, their sounds, plans for 2021.

T.H.E – Welcome to T.H.E – Music Essentials HAJJ & thanks for joining us today! Can you introduce yourselves to our readers & share a little about your journeys as DJs/producers in the electronic music industry so far?

HAJJ – Hey, we are HAJJ, a DJ/Producer duo from Mexico City, our names are Ricardo Hajj Aldana and Ricardo Cortes Hajj, we are 21 & 23 years old, our sound is characterized by having a groovy funky style on all our productions, even if we move to other genres. We have played on many festivals, such as: Ultra Mexico, Medusa Mexico, Medusa Spain, Dreamfields Mexico, EDC Mexico and many more… We have been producing for around 4 years and playing for around 3 years.

T.H.E – Congrats on your new single ‘Don’t Let Me Go’ – a perfect homage to the times of care free partying & festivals we are all longing for to return again! Can you talk us through your production process behind the track?

HAJJ – Sure! Most of the times it all starts with a drop, sometimes we start with a chord progression or even a melody. There are no rules for us to start a track, we have found that there are so many ways of inspirations that is impossible just to remain with one method. Also, staying updated listening new music and all genres helps us a lot for preventing to get freezes in the process, we usually try to combine so many music influences to create something new.

T.H.E – As a duo, you’ve shared stages with the likes of Tiësto, Armin van Buuren, Axwell, Steve Angello, Alesso, Afrojack, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. With such an impressive roster, has there been a performance that particularly stands out for each of you & what made it so notable/special?

HAJJ – Yes! of course there is one, and in our opinion the most special one was the second time we performed at Dreamfields Mexico, Bothe times on the main stage, but the second time we played just before the first international headliner, Julian Jordan, which made the night so special to us! We made dance around 30,000 people and rising the Mexican flag at the end was such an experience!

T.H.E – HAJJ’s sound has been dubbed as capturing “a unique blend of Groove House, Funky and Big Room” – how accurate is this description in your opinion & is there anything else you’d add?

HAJJ – Well, basically that’s our signature sound, of course we don’t produce only one style of electronic music, we like to move around other styles to keep things fresh, but no matter what style or electronic music genre we produce, our signature sound will always be there.

T.H.E – Do you feel the music scenes from your homelands have influenced your sound, as a duo & are there any labels / DJs that have particularly inspired you?

HAJJ – There is always an inspiration for us no matter our status, we admire so much Tiësto, Avicii, Alesso, Dannic and many more artists. Those were the main DJs that brought us into this industry and listening to so many other artists helped us to find our sound and of course, trying new things at the studio.

T.H.E – Looking ahead into the remainder of 2021 & beyond – what’s next in the pipeline for HAJJ, any exclusive news you can share with us?

HAJJ – Well, other than be back on stage when this is possible, we have been working on a lot of new music and we will also continue recording live DJ sets streamed on social media. For sure, we are working on a lot of different things and when the festivals are back, we are going to be ready to smash the dance floor!
