After the huge hit ‘Back 2 U’, which drew over 50 million streams on Spotify, Boehm came out with a cool new summer anthem – Cool Kidz.

The Romanian’s track was released on Ultra Music and also features Swedish singer and songwriter IXY. We caught up with Boehm and spoke to him about working with Ultra Music, and his evolution from hip-hop and pop to electronic music.

T.H.E – Hey Alex! What have you been up to this summer?

Boehm – Hey guys. I have to say this was the most relaxing summer in the last 4 years. I was traveling a lot and chilling most of the time. I really needed a break from the studio and this period was perfect for recharging my batteries.

T.H.E – Your new single is perfect for the summer. What is the meaning behind the title – Cool Kidz?

Boehm – I think the name speaks for itself. It is like an anthem for the younger generation and I hope that a lot of kidz found themselves in the lyrics. It’s all about the fun stuff we were doing as kids, about those times that we didn’t care about anything or anyone, just doing whatever we wanted.

T.H.E – How was it working with Ultra Music for this release?

Boehm – It’s not the first time that I worked with Ultra Music so I knew them very well. We had some other tracks that we worked together like my collaboration with Steve Aoki and several other remixes. So we have a strong history together.

T.H.E – Your musical journey is quite interesting. You got your start in hip-hop, went on to make a few pop hits, and now focus on the more electronic sounds. Was this evolution something that you had planned?

Boehm – Nope. I didn’t plan it. It just happened. The musical journey isn’t something you can plan, to be honest. You never know where you’ll find inspiration for your next song. But I think that all of the experience I had with other genres helped a lot as a music producer. I like music in general so it’s easy for me to jump between different sounds and to combine different genres. I still have times when I would like to record a hip hop track but I am focusing more on the electronic music now because I think it represents me more. The vibe, the positivity, the energy that electronic music brings is exactly who I am.

T.H.E – How has your earlier work with hip-hop and pop influenced your current sounds?

Boehm – My musical background helped me discover myself and develop me into the producer I am today. I still have some hip hop elements in some of my tracks, percussion, grooves etc, and the pop influence helps a lot nowadays when electronic music is very close to the pop culture.

T.H.E – Time for some fun ones. Would you rather be able to see 10 minutes into your own future or 10 minutes into the future of anyone but yourself?

Boehm – I wouldn’t like to know anything about my future so I will choose to see 10 minutes from someone else.

T.H.E – Would you rather live your entire life in a virtual reality where all your wishes are granted or in the real world?

Boehm – Real world for sure.

T.H.E – Would you rather never use social media sites / apps again or never watch another movie or TV show?

Boehm – If I still have internet I would choose the movies/TV shows. Don’t spend so much time on social media anymore so I can live happily without seeing everybody’s life every hour.

T.H.E – Would you rather be the first person to explore a planet or be the inventor of a drug that cures a deadly disease?

Boehm – A drug that cures a deadly disease.
