26 year old Bård Ericson AKA Boerd is a man of multiple talents. The Swedish producer is the latest muse of the reputed record label “Anjunadeep” and has recently released his new mini album, as he calls it, “Static”.

The EP itself, consisting of 6 punctiliously concocted tracks doesn’t need a massive description to flatter it. The music speaks for itself. Coming to Bård, the Swedish talent house also plays the double bass with the Swedish Royal Opera, the Swedish Radio Symphony, and Stockholm’s Royal Philharmonic Orchestra aside from his ventures in electronic music. Well, the influences of the classical sounds are seen very evidently in his work as it lightly laces the track and adds a deeper and a more complex element to it as compared to the tracks of a regular dance music producer. We had the opportunity to speak to this brilliant man about his journey as a musician, his signing with Anjuna and about 2018 on the whole. Read on to know more!

Shivani – Hi Bård! It’s wonderful to have the opportunity to speak with you! How has 2018 treated you till date?

Boerd – Hi, thanks! 2018 has treated me well so far, I have to say. Lots of nice feedback from my new release “Static” and other cool stuff happening. I think it’s been my most busy spring so far in my life, both with the electronic music career and with playing double bass.

Shivani – Congratulations on the release of your latest EP “Static”. How has the response been till date? Has it matched up to your expectations?

Boerd – The response has been great! I’ve never worked with a big label like Anjunadeep before so it’s been a different experience from my earlier releases where things were going a lot slower. So yes, it definitely matched my expectations, though I had no idea what to expect to be honest!

Shivani – How did the association with Anjunadeep begin? And how has the experience been working with them?

Boerd – They contacted me about a year ago, telling me they had been listening to my catalogue and asked me if I wanted to do something with them. I sent them “Static” which was almost finished at that point, and we decided to make that my first release with Anjunadeep. It’s been a great experience, and I was very happy that they decided to release “Static” on vinyl as well, since I did not release anything on physical format before.

Shivani – Which is one track from “Static” that you connect the most to?

Boerd – I would actually say the last song “Ebb”. I had just broken up with a girl (let’s be honest: I got dumped) and basically just came home that night and made the whole track in one sitting. So that track definitely brings back some memories… Though all of the tracks do, in some way or another. When you compose, produce and write lyrics all on your own I think it’s hard NOT to have a strong connection to the songs.

Shivani – You also are a part of the Swedish Royal Opera. How different is being a part of the opera from your own solo electronic project?

Boerd – It’s completely different. It’s more of a craftmanship than a creative experience, I’d say. In the opera, you’re a small part in a big machine. I like that feeling though. And I love the repertoire.

Shivani – How has being a classical music artist inspired you in your electronic music projects?

Boerd – It’s hard to say, but playing classical music for several hours every day has definitely given me a lot of inspiration and ideas. It’s not very concrete though, I don’t apply classical composition theory when I make electronic music, or maybe I do but without thinking about it. Some parts of my electronic music are obviously inspired by classical music tohugh, for example I like to use acoustic piano and samples of strings in my electronic music.

Shivani – What would be your favourite album of all time?

Boerd – “Jan Johansson – Jazz på Svenska” is probably the album I’ve listened to the most to in my life. It’s a very minimal swedish jazz piano album from 1964. Some other favourites are “Burial – Untrue”, “Hans Appelqvist – Sjunga Slutet Nu” and “Massive Attack – Helogiland”.

Shivani – What does 2018 have in store for you?

Boerd – I’ll start playing live shows with “boerd” which will be very interesting. I’m also working on new material, and I have a lot of work playing double bass. It’s gonna be a very busy year for sure!
