Revered Canadian based artists – Delerium present something very special indeed, as the duo based out of Vancouver release ‘Stay’ with JES.
In the next edition of T.H.E Interviews, Delerium talks about their new single, plans for 2018, and creating a legacy with arguably the greatest trance track of all time – Silence.
T.H.E – Hi guys! Welcome to The Music Essentials. How has 2018 been for you so far?
Delerium – Well since the release of the album we have been busy working on other projects, but now we are gearing up for the single release.
T.H.E – Congratulations on your new single ‘Stay’, tell us about the record & what it means to you personally?
Delerium – Changing labels has created a new atmosphere and this time we have worked with mostly new vocalists, like JES, so it’s energized us a bit more and this single reflects that new environment well.
T.H.E – How did you come to collaborate with JES and what was it like working with her?
Delerium – JES signed a publishing deal with our previous label, who we are still in contact with and they put us in touch. We were aware of her history and thought it would be a great fit. Working with her is a dream, everything is professional and on point – as well as a positive and energetic attitude.
T.H.E – Throughout your history, your musical style has evolved across a broad range of genres. What would you describe your signature sound as if any?
Delerium – We like to mix and layer electronic and organic sounds and also have a foundation of melody. We try to place an emphasis on there being a song as much as we do on sounds, and of course a strong vocal.
T.H.E – What other artists have inspired you along your creative journey?
Delerium – Artists like Massive Attack, Portishead, Future Sound Of London, Peter Gabriel and William Orbit are the top of the list, as well as various world music releases and film soundtracks.
T.H.E – ‘Stay’ also comes with a wide range of stellar remixes. What’s the thought process behind identifying potential artists to remix your tracks?
Delerium – This time we chose the main mixers ourselves and they brought some people in. I think we look for artists with a style that contains elements of the atmospheric quality we try to convey in our music, as well as just people who make records we like.
T.H.E – Going back in time, your release with Sarah Mclachlan – ‘Silence’ is a timeless classic. How does it make you feel that it still continues to be much loved & relevant even today?
Delerium – In our wildest dreams, we would never have predicted this song would take on this legacy. Obviously, a huge part of it has to do with the spectacular vocal that only someone of Sarah’s caliber could’ve provided, so we are honored to have been part of it.
T.H.E – And finally, what does the rest of 2018 look like for Delerium?
Delerium – We are currently looking into some possible live dates for 2019 and another single and remix package.
Nice article showcasing the talented Delerium, interesting the impact of changing labels and what comes from that. Waiting to hear about the potential 2019 live tour dates :)
