Exploring various sounds and genres within one EP, DJ Phonon has produced a master class of transcendent music which has something for everyone. There is something special about the way he produces his music, and we caught up with him to try and delve in to the mind of the man behind one of our favourite releases of the New Year.

T.H.E – So – can you sum up the inspiration behind the name and why you chose it?

DJ Phonon – This EP was a big step forward for me, working and collaborating with new singers and co-producers from all over the world. This is something I want to continue doing long term and into the future.

T.H.E – It’s a really special, explorative EP; do you think it’s a sign of things to come in the future for you?

DJ Phonon – I have learnt some very valuable lessons from this EP, which I hope will show in my forth-coming albums. It is without a doubt the first step of many things to come.

T.H.E – Do you have any particular influences you think are behind any of the tracks?

DJ Phonon – I wouldn’t say I had any particular musical influences for this EP, but I have many Influences that drove me to create this EP.

T.H.E – How long did it take to complete the EP from start to finish and was there one track that took the longest?

DJ Phonon – I think it would have been around two months as I was collaborating with so many people. The track that took the longest would have been ‘On the Road.’

T.H.E – This is a great way to start the New Year, are you ready to get working on more music for us? And can we have any hints of what to look forward to?

DJ Phonon – I have been working hard this whole year, creating as much music as possible! I have a new EP coming out on the 2nd March called ‘I Want It All’ . It has a great collaboration with Austin Leeds on there. I am also working on another EP ‘Elements’ which will be released at the end of March!

T.H.E – Was the project something that took a while to form as a whole, or did it work out easily?

DJ Phonon – I wouldn’t say it was difficult as I didn’t have many boundaries for this project, but it took a lot longer than I was expecting.

T.H.E – Do you have a method to starting each track, and how did this EP differ?

DJ Phonon – I usually start with the chords but I have been changing slightly, and I have made a song template now, which has really helped me. I have a beat set up already; just a basic 4/4 house beat. And a few instrument tracks that help me find my inspiration.

T.H.E – Finally, where can we get our hands on the EP?

DJ Phonon – The EP is on all major streaming services and online stores to buy.
