EDX

Over the past few years, EDX a.k.a. Maurizio Colella has made a name for himself in the international EDM scene, headlining the world’s finest clubs and festivals.

The chart topping Switzerland-based DJ/Producer has worked with some of the biggest names in music. His involvement in the music industry began at an early age, but it is his consistent work that has made EDX an exemplary success story. He recently was announced as a resident DJ for not just Las Vegas’ but one of the industry’s leading nightlife brands – Wynn in 2017. EDX is set to play across all their properties, which include Surrender, Encore Beach Club, XS Las Vegas and Intrigue throughout the entire year alongside some of the biggest DJs in the scene including The Chainsmokers, Diplo, David Guetta, Robin Schulz and more.

We caught up with Maurizio and spoke to him about this, plus also got some insight into how he plans to deal with such a hectic touring schedule.

Akshay – Hey Maurizio! How’s it going? How has the start of the year been for you?

EDX – It’s been a hectic but great start to the year already with a bunch of shows and a lot of traveling. I’m especially excited for being on Groove Cruise Miami, with all my buddies who will be playing as well.

Akshay – Congratulations on being announced as a resident DJ for Wynn in 2017. This will see you play alongside some of the biggest names in dance music, like David Guetta, The Chainsmokers and more! How excited are you?

EDX – I have been in Las Vegas since 2011, and it’s a very special place. People from all over the world get together there to party and celebrate music. This year we are happy to announce our collaboration with the #1 nightlife outlets in Las Vegas. I am really happy to start this new Las Vegas residency with Wynn and all their brands. It will be a great year!

Akshay – As a resident DJ, what are you looking forward to? What are your plans for 2017?

EDX – Well, I will be playing at all of the venues and events from Nightswim to XS, Intrigue, Encore Beach Club and Surrender. Together with Robin Schulz and Duke Dumont, we will be representing the more housey, melodic DJs at Wynn this year, which I am really excited to be a part of.

Akshay – The ‘Resident DJ’ announcement probably adds to the massive touring schedule you have for this year. How do you plan to cope with it?

EDX – My team is working really hard to make my tours a happy musical journey. I played over 140 shows last year, and we will try to do the same again this year.

Akshay – What are some of the steps that you necessarily take to ensure you are ready for such a touring schedule, both physically and mentally?

EDX – I think the most important thing is to have trust in your team back home and on the road. They really help on all aspects of a DJ career and touring, so you must make sure they are a right fit and keep them happy when they are. And of course nutrition is king! Eat light and healthy!

Akshay – Btw! Loved your remix of ‘Feel The Same’ that came out recently. How did it come about?

EDX – Lika Morgan came up with the great idea to re-record the track. It was somewhat challenging as there are so many different takes of the original over the last 30 years but I feel we did a great new 2017 remix, with an extra diverse twist, which will be definitely doing well for a few months and maybe even more. The support and feedback so far has been incredible, which I am very thankful for. It’s a good thing to have a good start of 2017.

Akshay – Talking about production, what are your plans for 2017?

EDX – There will be plenty of music ready to go. My next release is called ‘Dharma’ and will be released early February on Enormous Tunes. It’s a club tune with a housey break and signature EDX chords and beats. The core EDX fanbase will definitely be happy with this first single for 2017, then a few remixes before Summer and a 2nd single for Miami Ultra Weekend.

Akshay – What are your top 5 essential tunes of the moment?

EDX – Many unreleased EDX bits and the following 5:

ID – Work Your Body

Daniel Portman – La Lingua

Redondo – White Keys

Me & My Toothbrush – Get Closer

Rüfus – Innerbloom (Lane 8 Remix)

Akshay – Thanks Maurizio! Wish you the very best with your plans for 2017.

EDX – Thanks for having me, it’s always a pleasure to speak about my music.
