KIA MAZZI recently released his debut album Mothership which is filled with special tracks that explore the boundaries of electronic music.
He believes that the artist should remain “the student of the game.” Some logistical mistakes should be expected during that growth. Kia also believes there is evolution within imperfection, a creative progression that will come from practice, from hard-won trial and error. “If someone is trying to tell a story, or write a book they should be able to say it the way they want to say it.”

We had an exclusive chat with Kia talking about the album, the Boston scene, Iran, his favorite synth and much more. Read on!
T.H.E – Tell us a little bit about the making of Mothership, your debut album
Kia Mazzi – Mothership is a story about where I came from. More or less it is sound track of my life. It is a combination of some of my older work that I finally happy with. I couldn’t let these tracks go. I felt they still had a lot of potential, it just took a while to find the right sound design and the cohesive theme that made the album whole. There were more, a lot more tracks I omitted, that were just not the right fit. I’m extremely happy with how it has turned out.
T.H.E – How would you describe the scene in Boston?
Kia Mazzi – Boston is a small city, there are very few clubs & because of that it’s kinda limited
T.H.E – If you could choose one famous musician to collab with, who would it be and why?
Kia Mazzi – Martin Gore (Depeche Mode) I mean come on, he is a legend! would love to meet him in person.
T.H.E – Tell us more about your favorite synthesizer.
Kia Mazzi – Moog Voyager is probably my favorite Synth, just the way it sounds warm & natural makes it very hard not to mention.
T.H.E – What was the best reaction a fan gave to your music?
Kia Mazzi – I’m probably not that great at reacting to compliments, I appreciate it but when i see people get emotional throw my music i feel the love!
T.H.E – Is your approach to a DJ set different than producing songs?
Kia Mazzi – Yes, to me Djing is like driving, You gain experience as you go, always gotta be ready to change the route & be smooth but producing is like being a mechanic or engineer, you always gotta practice & test everything to make sure it does sound right while you design all the details like sounds, story, melody and harmony.
T.H.E – Which art other than music has your interest?
Kia Mazzi – I like architecture & design
T.H.E – Tell us more about the culture in Iran especially as it relates to music.
Kia Mazzi – What can i say? In a country with a close minded government where even music is illegal & where they filter the internet and block social media, music always plays a big factor in dark times! So many talented & passionate people there that they never got a chance to express themselves or follow their passion as result of that.
T.H.E – What elements should a song have to be considered a masterpiece?
Kia Mazzi – Everything!! idea behind the song, purpose of the song, story of the song, sound design, harmony (everything)
T.H.E – What are your plans for 2018?
Kia Mazzi – There are a lot more records I will be releasing over the next year or so. I have so much work worth putting out and I am currently polishing up my next release. For right now my focus is working on my live performance and making sure that I can reproduce Mothership live on stage at a high level. I’ll be releasing dates shortly, my plan is going out on the road for most of 2018.
T.H.E – If there is anything else you would like to mention to our readers?
Kia Mazzi – I’m very excited about this album Mothership. I made it independently at my own studio. For me, it’s a great accomplishment finishing an album and be able to tell my story through the material.
