Too Many Zooz are the subway sensation known for collaborating on Beyonce’s Lemonade as well as a searing series of live busking viral videos. Pioneering the sound of the streets, their recent single Warriors featured in the Google Pixel 2 advert, seeing the track garner huge TV plays across Europe, North & South America and Japan.
Check out our chat with the trio where we talk about the meaning behind their band name, favourite animals and more.
T.H.E – Hi guys! Firstly, what’s with the name – Too Many Zooz? What is the meaning behind it?
Too Many Zooz – Too many zooz is a band name that a friend of ours made up. It takes on whatever meaning you want.
T.H.E – You guys met by chance at Union Square subway station! That’s incredible, recount that experience for us.
Too Many Zooz – I (Leo) met the kind of sludge in the subway playing with a different instrument called the drumadics.
T.H.E – Your recent single with KDA – Warriors, was picked up by Ministry Of Sound, and also was named as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record in the World. That must be a great sight, finding that out.
Too Many Zooz – Yes it was! Super happy that our music is spreading around the world, especially in a main stream way.
T.H.E – It’s also featured on the Google Pixel 2 advert. How the track come about?
Too Many Zooz – We went to go see the golden state warriors win their 73rd game in the regular season which is the NBA record. After that game, we recorded “Warriors”.
T.H.E – Time for some fun ones, where are some unusual places you’ve been?
Matt – Everywhere is unusual in it’s own way!
Leo – Africa is the most unusual place I have ever been!
David – The United States as it is now!
T.H.E – Given the band name, I think it’s only fair that we ask this. What is your favourite animal?
Matt – Shark or dog
Leo – Idk maybe a platypus
David – Love them all equally
T.H.E – What’s the most expensive thing you’ve broken?
Leo – My saxophone lol
Matt – My trumpet
David – My heart
T.H.E – Do you think that aliens exist?
Leo – We have one in our band.
Matt – I believe that the chance of us being the one and only life form in the entire universe (and parallel universes) is slim to none.
David – No!
T.H.E – What mythical creature do you wish actually existed?
Leo – Leprechaun
Matt – Centaur
David – God
T.H.E – What game have you spent the most hours playing?
Leo – Fortnite
Matt – I’ve basically exclusively played Fortnite since season 3 came out.
David – Basketball
