London pair – Toyboy and Robin, have delivered their brand new track ‘Horn It’, a deep club record out via Nothing Else Matters, the imprint of BBC Radio 1 broadcaster and DJ, Danny Howard.

We caught up with the duo to speak about the single, some of the toughest challenges that they faced, and their perfect pizza!

T.H.E – Hey guys! Welcome to T.H.E – Music Essentials. What have you been up to this summer?

Toyboy and Robin – Hi guys, thanks for having us! We’ve actually had a bit of a break from music this summer. Bar a few festivals here and there we’ve taken the last few months out to just relax and recharge.

T.H.E – Love the vibes that your new track- Horn It, brings. how long has it been in the works?

Toyboy and Robin – Ahh glad to hear that! We put the initial idea for “Horn It” together, a little while ago, before our break, so it’s really been in the works for a few months now. We’ve just been happy to get it out and thanks to the Nothing Else Matters team, who’ve been great!

T.H.E – It signifies a new chapter for you, in terms of the sounds that you have showcased so far and what this track brings to the table. How did this come about, and why?

Toyboy and Robin – Yeah it’s a little bit different to some of the stuff we’ve put out over the years. We probably couldn’t really tell you how it came about though as we honestly don’t know haha. We were just messing around with trumpet/horn sounds one day, tried not to overthink it and just ran with what came out.

T.H.E – Ever since you guys stormed into the scene in 2012, which artists have given you the best advice and served as inspirations while you made it in the scene?

Toyboy and Robin – We probably have far too many to list here, but we’ve been fortunate enough to meet a lot of great producers & artists over the years, ranging from the likes of Kidnap all the way to Mike Chapman, who’ve all been nice enough to lend us advice whenever we need it!

T.H.E – What are some of the biggest challenges you faced?

Toyboy and Robin – It’s no doubt a cliché, but truthfully, our biggest challenge has been ourselves. Think a lot of producers will tell you that they’re their own worst enemies when it comes to making music, and we’re certainly no different. Our main challenge has always been feeling happy with what we’ve made. We’ve tended to spend hours tinkering unnecessarily, but we know now not to overthink things in the studio.

T.H.E – What does the rest of 2018 look like for you guys from a touring and production pov?

Toyboy and Robin – We’re heading over to Electric Picnic Festival in Ireland this weekend, then Greece next week. We’ve only just recently gotten back to making new bits, so your guess is as good as ours with what we’ll come up with. We’re just enjoying ourselves again and seeing what comes from that.

T.H.E – Time for some fun ones, what is your perfect pizza?

Toyboy – Meat Feast hands down
Robin – Some sort of Italian meats combo. Definitely no sausage, meatball or diced beef though!

T.H.E – The best compliment that you have received?

Toyboy – “I used to hate you, but now you’re alright”
Robin – “You’re the most fun person to party with”

T.H.E – If you could wake up tomorrow in the body of someone else, whom would it be?

Toyboy – Barack Obama… Easily one of the coolest guys on the planet!
Robin – Hmm…probably someone like Ronaldo or Messi…just to know what it feels like to be that good at football.

T.H.E – What is the strangest thing you have eaten?

Toyboy – This is lame, but I can’t say I’m that adventurous when it comes to my food. I’m too much of a fussy eater haha.

Robin – Nothing too weird, but I did drink this coffee in Indonesia, where basically this marsupial type animal called a Luwak, eats coffee beans, shits them out, and then they make the coffee from that. Surprisingly smooth!
