With the Tiesto prodigies continuing to impress the Dance music world with their intricate, masterful productions, VAVO have come on incredibly fast.
Their latest output ‘Sleeping Alone’ is an evocative work of art from the duo, combining acoustic and electronic instruments to create pure bliss harnessing the future sound of Electronic music. We needed to catch up with the guys to learn how they made such a special tune, and have a chat about what else we can look forward to from them!
T.H.E – Hey guys! Firstly, how did the track get its name?
VAVO – Hey! So originally, when it was ready, we sent the instrumental out to a singer/song writer to do the topline. After going back and forth a few times, we received a variation of what you hear today. The point of this song was to give our listeners a song that brings emotion, which is why we wanted to make it a duet – we felt it was very relatable. Once we got the final product back, we heard ‘Sleeping Alone’ in the lyrics and immediately knew that’s what the title needed to be!
T.H.E – So lets start with the basics – what do you think this track represents for you? And do you plan to make more like this in the future?
VAVO – The track for us represents a new direction for our music. This is kind of our first original Dance x Pop crossover / radio track for us. As producers, we are constantly growing and evolving and pretty much up until ‘Sleeping Alone’ we have been more instrumental focused with our productions, such as Progressive and Electro House. We are very excited for all the new music we have coming soon, so yes – there is a lot more where this came from!
T.H.E – In terms of production, how did the track start and how long did it take overall to finish?
VAVO – We had just decided we wanted to try something more Pop, but still bring an emotional, energetic drop. We have really enjoyed what Illenium has done recently, so we were definitely inspired by some of his productions. Overall, the track took about 2 months to finish. We had the instrumental done within a few weeks, but it was the songwriting and vocals that took time to dial in. Working with 1 songwriter and 2 vocalists was a first for us, so making sure everyone was on the same page was a little bit of a challenge. That said, having all these moving pieces and seeing this song come together was an amazing experience and most importantly very fun.
T.H.E – You have some big admirers in the music industry and a growing fan base – do you have any plans for the next few months we should look forward to?
VAVO – Oh yes! The next few months are going to be big. We have a lot of new music that we can’t wait to share!! Some of our best music yet! We are also working on playing some shows, so we can showcase these tracks and meet a lot of our fans.
T.H.E – The vocals on the track are beautiful – how did you come to collaborate with the vocalist?
VAVO – We actually met both vocalists online. The internet is a big part in a lot of collaborations these days. You really don’t have to travel all over the place to work with people like you used too.
T.H.E – Do you have a usual production style or method to start tracks?
VAVO – Nope! We have ideas that we try to get down, and to be honest, we start so many tracks that we never finish haha. I think a lot of producers can relate. We think, oh this is a great idea and we spent 3-4 hours working melodies and basslines only to find out the next day that the idea was only good in our heads. So, to answer your question, we usually just start with melodies and work from there. We like to get a full structure done and then fill the track in, for us – that’s easiest. Having great vocals to work around doesn’t hurt either!
T.H.E – What would be your one bit of advice to young producers looking to make their big break?
VAVO – Believe in yourself, because if you don’t, no one else will. Just remember every big artist you admire started in the exact same place you did!
