Liah discusses her latest track, her sound, 2022 plans and more.

Aditya – Hey Liah, Glad to have you for the interview. How were the first couple of months of this year for you?

Liah – Thanks for having me! The first couple of months of 2022 were very exciting. I signed my first management contract with Beat Dealer Records and I am really looking forward to working with them. When I started making music, I would never have dreamed of that. Another highlight was that I released my first collab with NAEMS. “Get up” is a very special track for me. I am also really happy that the nightclubs are open again and that it’s possible for us DJs to play in front of an audience again.

Aditya – Your latest track with Naems ‘Get Up’ is an absolute festival banger, could you share the creative process of this track?

Liah – We had this vision of a massive and unique festival track that people would remember. In the first version of “Get up” the drop was very minimal but still strong. Through NAEMS’s influence, the song got the power of an energetic bass house track that it now has. The catchy vocals in combination with the unique drop pluck and the trap segments in the breakdown create a special vibe. Personally, I like to listen to hip hop and trap which inspired us to combine different genres. We spent a lot of time working on the track and want to trigger a feeling of happiness and freedom, like the one you experience in a festival crowd.

Aditya – What’s your favorite section in the track and why?

Liah – It’s hard to tell which part I like the most because the whole track is very special to me. But if I had to pick – I would say that the breakdown and the second build-up are my favorites. The combination of trap segments and strings as well as the influence of bass house give me goosebumps. I am super excited to play the track in front of an audience.

Aditya – When was the first time you got your hands on the decks?

Liah – I grew up in a very musical family so music was always a big part of my life. When I got older Electronic Dance Music was very fascinating for me and I enjoyed watching bigger DJs perform at festivals like Tomorrowland etc. on YouTube, as well as the DJ’s playing in Clubs that I went to. After going to my first festival (Open Beatz Festival), I was dreaming of people listening to my music and playing in front of crowds like this. So I started practicing and in 2019 I stood behind the decks for the first time. It was mostly my friends but felt like the beginning of something big.

Aditya – What instruments to play at the present?

Liah – As a child I learned to play the violin and the piano which really helped me when I started making electronical music.

Aditya – How would you describe your sound?

Liah – My sound is very powerful, we always try to create unique elements and drops that are full of energy. Through catchy vocals we want to get people in a party mood. I want people to listen to my songs and feel the energy and passion that I feel for music.

Aditya – You’ve been in the scene for quite a bit now I believe, what are your plans for 2022?

Liah – 2022 is an exciting year for me and my team because there are a lot of great things waiting for us. We work on a lot of new music and I am really looking forward to share it with the world. My biggest gig and achievement of my career so far will take place in Croatia. I will play at Papaya Club and share the stage with artists like Nervo, Plastik Funk and Alle Farben which is totally crazy.

Aditya – You’ve played at one of the best clubs in the world, how do you feel about that?

Liah – Last year I played at Kalypso Club, at the famous Zcre Beach in Croatia. This was a very special moment in my career and still feels unreal to me. I can’t describe the feelings that I felt standing behind the decks. I couldn’t stop smiling because I was so happy doing what I love.

Aditya – Any production you’d want to share for beginners?

Liah – My suggestions for beginners are to try out loads of different styles of music and to not to focus on a single one. It is important to remember that music has no rules and to let your creativity go wild. Watch tutorials on YouTube, connect with other people in the industry and don’t be too shy to ask for help!

Aditya – Lastly, an artist you’d want to collaborate with and why?

Liah – Julian Jordan and TV Noise are some of my favorite artists, so it would be a dream to collaboration with them. Especially Julian Jordan is a role model for me. I love the energy that his tracks contain. Maybe someday there will be a massive Julian Jordan & Liah Collab. That would be awesome!
