T.H.E Interview – Paul Marshman

Australian native Paul Marshman has built his reputation as one of Adelaide’s leading DJs over the last decade.

The talent has been making waves the past couple of years with his recent releases, including his January hit ‘This Is What We Do’. Now back with his latest release ‘If It Wasn’t For You,’ Paul Marshman once again showcases his unique, melodic production style. Out now via Global League, ‘If It Wasn’t For You’ is available to listen to across all streaming platforms.

We caught up with Paul Marshman to learn more about how “If It Wasn’t For You” came about, his favourite release and more.

Aditya – Hey Paul! Glad to have you for the interview. How’s 2021 been for you so far?

Paul Marshman – Thanks for having me on ! 2021 has been a great year rolling with the punches with COVID but have had a lot more time to focus on my music which has been great.

Aditya – Your final track of the year ‘If It Wasn’t For You’, comes out on the 14th. The track sounds sublime & energetic. Could you please share the creative process of this track?

Paul Marshman – Absolutely the first version of if it wasn’t for you was completely different it was a bigger EDM style track but felt it was taking away from the vocal. So this time we re wrote the track around the vocal. Something in which I had never done before but loved learning how to write a song this way.

Aditya – The vocals mould together so well, could you tell us more about it?

Paul Marshman – The vocalist nailed it & hence why I decided to take a different direction with it to give it the room to shine through the track.

Aditya – You’ve quite a few releases, which is your personal Favorite one?

Paul Marshman – My latest release for sure 🙂

Aditya – Apart from producing & DJing, do you play any instrument? If yes, which and when did you pick it up?

Paul Marshman – I play the keyboard by ear but can’t read a sheet of music to save my life 🙂

Aditya – Which DAW do you use & why?

Paul Marshman – Abelton I think just because it what I’ve always used.

Aditya – If you’re to use only one plugin exclusively, which one would that be & why?

Paul Marshman – Probably OTT so simple but yet so effective.

Aditya – Would you like to share any tips for upcoming DJs & Producers.

Paul Marshman – Find your sound, write down your goals & don’t let anything get in the way of them,

Aditya – You’ve shared stages alongside Calvin Harris & Carl Cox, and performed across some renowned festivals, how do you feel about that?

Paul Marshman – I love it , those are the moments we all work so hard for. To have the opportunity to rock it with some of the best in the world is something I will never forget.

Aditya – Lastly, what are you looking forward to in 2022?

Paul Marshman – Hoping for a bit more normality, gigs start flowing again & just playing more music !!
