New kid on the block, Mike Williams, shows off a fresh sound in the dance music scene.

Currently signed to Spinnin’ Records, he is only just beginning to take the world by storm by his musical talent. Hailing from the Netherlands, Mike Williams has garnered much support for his tracks from big names in the industry. Already playing internationally, he makes his South African debut at Plet Rage and Rage Festival 2015. We had the opportunity to briefly speak to him at RAGE Fest about his career so far and his humble musical beginnings, among other things.

Azasia – You’re experiencing South Africa for the first time, what have you enjoyed the most?

Mike – Yesterday I played at Plet Rage. It was the first gig I played in South Africa. Yeah it was awesome, epic. The crowd was insane. Everybody was in a good vibe.

Azasia – Being so young and already having played on an international level is truly an achievement, where did your love for music stem from?

Mike – When I was 14 years old, I started playing music from my bedroom. My father played a lot of music on the piano and that inspired me a lot. And yeah I just started messing around. Like a year ago it started becoming very big and now international. Its really amazing.

Azasia – How did you find “your sound”?

Mike – Its difficult. A lot of people inspired me like Oliver Heldens, Martin Garrix. They found their own sound and I think its just messing around and then you’re getting your own sound.

Azasia – Any motivation for aspiring producers?

Mike – I think focusing on the quality of your music and spreading the music through everyone. Because there are a lot of producers who are just like okay I make a song and I send it to everyone. But I think you have to practice a lot and try a lot of things out before you really spread your music out. You make sure its really good and then let people hear it. I think that’s the best way.

Azasia – Lastly, what is your favourite memory of performing thus far?

Mike – I had a gig in the Netherlands also in Belgium where I really noticed for the first time that my music became a little popular. People were like recognising my stuff and that was just like whoa! They know my songs! It was amazing.
