2022 is almost over and it’s a good moment to review the most important milestones of this past year full of learnings, new experiences and, of course, music.

Romaan shares some insight about his year and his plans for the holidays.

T.H.E – Hi, thanks for taking the time to talk to us today. 2022 is almost over, we want to know what is your most important highlight of the year, both musically and personally?

Romaan – It’s a pleasure! Thanks to you. There has been a lot of movement for me this year, unfortunately, not really musical. I had to move to a new country and get my belongings, find a place and set up my studio again. But here I am, finally ready to give it my all to release as many tracks as possible for 2023.

T.H.E – What was your favorite release of 2022 (of your own)?

Romaan – Like I said, I didn’t have many releases this year except for “Release Yourself”.

T.H.E – And what was your favorite track of the year from someone else?

Romaan – There are several but one recent one I really liked: The Deepshakerz, Nhan-Solo, DiVine – Hey Now.

T.H.E – Did you have any special standout shows this year either that you played or attended?

Romaan – I played for the first time to a Saudi audience for a private event. I loved the energy of the people.

T.H.E – What was the biggest lesson you learned in life 2022?

Romaan – Patience! Without a doubt. Whatever the obstacles in life, if you are persistent and patient, anything can happen.

T.H.E – And following on, what was the biggest lesson you learned in music?

Romaan – Keep the fun in it! Whatever your goals are.

T.H.E – If you could send yourself a message to you 5 years ago, what would it be and why?

Romaan – Keep the way! I would tell myself to stay focused on my goals but no matter what, I live for my music and for me that is already a success. The rest is just an addition.

T.H.E – How has your sound developed in 2022?

Romaan – After relocating to a studio in Riyadh where I currently live, I wanted to try and produce differently and change the way I work. I hope that this will come across in my new productions.

T.H.E – Who would you say was the most innovative artist in 2022?

Romaan – Obviously, I would name Eric Prydz for “HOLO.” But I was also touched by Giolì & Assia’s live performance in Iceland.
Technically, it’s not comparable to HOLO of course, but the mix of sounds and the choice of location, I found it beautiful and surprising more than innovative.

T.H.E – Which label or labels do you think where at the top of their game in 2022?

Romaan – There has been a big trend in Afro House this year as well as Organic House, and I think MoBlack Records has been very strong again, I would also mention Abracadabra Music.

T.H.E – If any, do you have any regrets for the year behind us?

Romaan – I try never to have regrets, haha.

T.H.E – What are your plans for the holidays?

Romaan – Well, I’m going to stay in Saudi Arabia and focus on 2023 which is going to be a busy year for me.

T.H.E – Just for fun, if you had to take a classic Christmas song and remix it, what style would it be and what could we expect?

Romaan – Is that a challenge? Haha.

I’d stick to a danceable style, that the DJs can play.

It doesn’t matter if it’s Afro House, Tech House or Disco House, I’ll try to make it fit with the original track.

T.H.E – Where will you be spending New Year’s Eve?

Romaan – In Riyadh, I will be playing for “Meraki” the restaurant for which I am Musical Director.

T.H.E – If you had to put 2022 into one sentence, what would it be?

Romaan – Can’t wait for 2023!
