One of the most exciting untapped acts on the techno circuit, Soko & Sev, follow up from their latest ‘Perception of Reality’ EP on AnalyticTrail with a debut contribution to Spartaque’s esteemed Codex Recordings imprint.
Championing similar cosmic sensibilities to that of their previous musical endeavours, the 2-track ‘Escape From Earth’ EP is another masterclass in progressive techno, sure to receive staunch support from top-tier talent and audiences across the globe — out now across all streaming platforms.
We caught up with the duo to learn more about how the EP came about, their plans for the rest of the year and more.
T.H.E – It’s really good to converse with you, Soko and Sev, on this edition of T.H.E – Interviews. Welcome! To begin with, tell us how the past year has been for you?
Soko & Sev – Hi, thanks for having us on! It’s been a very challenging year for us to say the least. May 2021 marks our debut year releasing our productions and with no shows we have found it a very strange time to also transition into music full time.
T.H.E – In a short span of time, you guys have made a strong mark in the techno scene, how has the journey been?
Soko & Sev – We have found the journey very difficult, juggling full time jobs whilst producing and playing can take its toll. On top of this, the lack of shows during the pandemic has really made a big impact on the support we are able to receive, however we are hopeful for the future and happy that we have reached 25 track releases in the space of 12 months, showing the scene what sound we strive for.
T.H.E – You have a new EP, “Escape from Earth” out now, tell us how you went about working on it.
Soko & Sev – Yes, we’re really happy with this release and feel like it showcases some of our best work yet. This release came very naturally, we didn’t want to force a particular theme but really went ‘with the flow’ as we do in most of our productions. Focus for us is always on making music that touches some sort of emotions whilst having the power techno element we all love in warehouse clubs, and a sound that we always look for.
T.H.E – What is the best aspect of working with each other? If each one of you can share how you feel about working with the other – we’d love to know!
Soko & Sev – We have always loved working together. We have always believed in making tracks together rather than apart as it always brings something more special to the table. We have always had a laid-back approach to our productions and find that we always bounce well off each other. In regards to playing live, I don’t think we would want it any other way than together as we always have the time of our lives at any venue we are playing.
T.H.E – You have released music on some top record labels and also have shared the stage with some big techno acts, how does it feel to get accepted and loved in the industry in a short span of time?
Soko & Sev – Incredible! We couldn’t be more grateful for all of the support we’ve received from so many artists we look up to and we feel that our work over the years to get us here is finally being noticed! It’s always an amazing feeling to get recognition for a craft you’ve put so much love, energy and passion into.
T.H.E – What do you both have in store for the rest of 2021?
Soko & Sev – As 2020 was such a hectic year for us release wise, and now we have offered a big catalogue of releases to back our name, we feel that now is our time to showcase our productions in live settings. We can’t wait for the pandemic to subside and for us to be able to do what we truly love, play for the people! Thank you for having us and we hope to see you on the dance floor soon!
