Within more than a decade now, the collaborational production force named Luna City Express, derived and developed from the influences and musical upbringings of Norman Weber and Marco Resmann, has turned into a consistent land and trade-mark in the electronic music scene in terms of releases, remixes and remarkable DJ sets all over the place.

We had the chance to catch up with Norman from Luna City Express backstage at SulaFest 2016 where he talks about DJing and reflects back on 2015 + shares his favourite highlights!

Akshay – When did you start DJing?

Luna City Express (Norman) – I started DJing in 1996 in a small club in my hometown. It’s been a hobby for around 9-10 years, after which it became professional.

Akshay – What is the one thing that you enjoyed most about DJing when you started off?

Luna City Express (Norman) – Music has always been a passion point! When I started working, I bought records from the record shop, then comes the next step of playing records. In the beginning, I used to play plus also handle my job. Since 2000, I have become more professional, and now its become a combination of hobby + job.

Akshay – Any inspirations that helped you when started off?

Luna City Express (Norman) – Uhhm, mainly my inspirations came from the American house music. In 1989, I got a tape from my uncle, which had house music. This tape and also the American house music was inspirational for me. Not only to feel this music, but to play it as well. For me, pure house music is the meaning of dance music.

Akshay – What are the challenges that you currently face while DJing?

Luna City Express (Norman) – Every weekend is a challenge! I mean, travelling to different countries is a challenge you know. Meeting new people, club promoters, understanding their definition of dance music is very challenging!

Akshay – Will it be possible for you to name your favourite venue?

Luna City Express (Norman) – For me, not possible. Every weekend can be beautiful, either a small village or a big city, inside or outside of Germany, Europe where the electronic scene is really big. I have some favorites but not possible to name one. Amsterdam, London, Ibiza – Spain, Muna nightclub in my hometown etc.

Akshay – If you had to reflect back on 2015 and name your highlights, what would they be?

Luna City Express (Norman) – I had a lot highlights! It was the 10th anniversary of Luna City Express (Norman), so we had a little tour. It was very intense. Towards the end of 2015, it was the anniversary of our label – Moonharbour, which we celebrated in Mexico, Argentina. Playing at events like Amsterdam Dance Event, Ibiza etc were also big. The whole year was intense!

Akshay – And how do you plan to top that in 2016?

Luna City Express (Norman) – Ohh topping 2015 is going to be really hard! The destinations will definitely be more intense. Like its my first time in India!

Akshay – Really? How are you liking it?

Luna City Express (Norman) – Arrived this morning actually so not really got a chance to see more. But after #SulaFest, we go to Vagator, so hopefully, we get to see some good spots.

Akshay – Last question! Do you really like wines?

Luna City Express (Norman) – Yes, ofcourse I like wines!

Akshay – Did you have a chance to try some of the Sula wines?

Luna City Express (Norman) – Not yet! The next step for us is to go out, roam around a bit and try the wines before our set.

Akshay – Thanks Guys!

Luna City Express (Norman) – Thank you.
