Double the madness, double the talent, double the tunes. Sydney born and bred twins Gemellini are quite the duo to be singled out taking only one year for these talented young guns to realize the extremity of their musical potential.
As a budding DJ and producer pair, inspired by heated magnates like Axwell, Eric Prydz, Hardwell, and duo Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano-house music lives in their soul proving it takes a little bit more than just the ear to know what’s musically right.
Coming off the back of releasing ‘Cavenda’ on Sosumi Records, we caught up with the duo to speak to them about their journey in the dance music industry so far and plenty more. Read our chat below. :)
T.H.E – Hey Guys! Thanks for taking the time out for this interview. What are you upto currently?
Gemellini – Hey Guys! thanks for having us. We are currently building our profile and working on fresh new music.
T.H.E – What made you decide to DJ/Produce as a career? Have you always been musically inclined?
Gemellini – We grew up singing with our elder brother as a trio. Our Father was a DJ. We were surrounded by music and naturally grew to love DJing and writing music.
T.H.E – You have participated and won the ‘Your Shot’ DJ competition and performed at events like Stereosonic, how has this impacted your success as an artist?
Gemellini – It has been great to play at festivals in Australia such as Stereosonic and Future Music Festival. It’s been a great experience and it’s always fun to have many artists in the one place to hang out and catch up. You can also be a little more adventurous with the tracks you play.
T.H.E – Your single, ‘Cavenda’ was recently released on Sosumi Records as a free download. The way the label functions is quite unique considering that it doesn’t sell but offers every release as a free download. How refreshing is this concept for you Guys?
Gemellini – We love it! We think it is very refreshing and it gives much more opportunities for emerging artists. The label is all about the love of music and it has our full support.
T.H.E – Having been in the industry for a few years now, where do you continue to get the inspiration from?
Gemellini – We are constantly getting inspirations from everywhere, the people that we meet, the places that we visit and the experiences that we share. But the one goal we have whilst writing a song is to try and make every record “fresh”.
T.H.E – Which artists continue to influence your sounds?
Gemellini – Kryder & Tom Staar, Deniz Koyu, Axwell, Kolsch, Filterheadz, Alesso.
T.H.E – Any rituals, superstitions, etc when traveling, performing or even in the studio?
Gemellini – We have like a ‘Gemellini’ handshake that we do before and after a set or if we’re feeling the vibes in the studio.
T.H.E – Are there any future collaborations or projects that you are working on & with whom?
Gemellini – Hopefully soon, there may be a collaboration or two with extremely talented artists, but we’re going to keep that under wraps for now. We’ll let you know as it unfolds ;).
T.H.E – Favorite foods (home or abroad)?
Gemellini – We’re from an Italian background so we get spoilt with food at home. We have our favourites in different cities but nothing beats a home cooked meal with the family.
T.H.E – Lastly, what would be the 5 things you would definitely carry for a camping adventure.
Gemellini – We like this question! We’ve never been asked this question before.
Probably – Home Made Salami, Guitar, Italian Cards, Soccer Ball, Comfortable Pillows.
