Disclosure brought Deep House back, and our “Artist Of The Month” for August took it to the mainstage, with his mean moves behind the decks and his animal affection. Our artist of the month for August 2015 is the man who’s on fire at the moment, 20 year old superkid Oliver Heldens.
We got a chance to speak to Oliver about Tomorrowland, his imprint – Heldeep Records and his relationship with Spinnin’ Records! Check out what he had to say. :)
T.H.E – Hey Oliver! Congratulations for being our ‘Artist Of The Month’ for August 2015. What are you upto currently and from where are you taking this interview?
Oliver Heldens – Thanks!! I’ve been on the road for almost 4 weeks. I just got home for one day, got some sleep and spent some time with family and friends and now I’m off again!
T.H.E – Congratulations on the release of the first tune from your alter ego Hi-Lo, titled “Renegade Mestah”. How has the reaction been?
Oliver Heldens – ‘Renegade Mastah’ is more bass driven and “underground”. The typical Oliver Heldens sound is way more melodic, so when I started producing tracks like ‘Renegade Mastah’ it seemed naturally to do this under a different name. Since the word got out, it has been crazy! I received so many positive reactions!
T.H.E – You recently played at Tomorrowland Belgium. How was the experience? What is the one thing about this festival that amazes you like no other?
Oliver Heldens – Tomorrowland amazes me every time; the people, the music, the setting. Next to that it feels a bit like family time. I get to see and speak to so many friends in the industry.
T.H.E – A lot of people may not this about you, but you started out producing big room before breaking into future house. How did this transition come about? Could we see you produce big room in the future?
Oliver Heldens – Well you know I produce(d) a lot of different stuff from big room to hardstyle to future house. Big room is not something that I’m working on right now but never say never!
T.H.E – Most of your tracks have been released on Spinnin’ Records. How did this association come about? And how has it helped you to grow as an artist?
Oliver Heldens – When I started producing/DJing at first, I just practiced, practiced, practiced. Man, I spend so many hours on my laptop. Until, I kind of knew the direction of my sound and I send some music to Spinnin’ and it went all really fast from there..
T.H.E – Your own record label, ‘Heldeep Records’ is doing quite well. What can we expect next? Any artists that you have an eye on to sign to your label?
