We caught up with Years and spoke to him about his inspirations, being backed by industry heavy-weights like Armin van Buuren and Axwell, his favourite producers of 2016 and loads more. Read our chat below! :)

Nikhil – First of all, huge congratulations on getting your remix signed to one of the biggest dance music labels in the scene, Axtone Records. How has the experience been like after being backed by Axwell since last year and then finally getting to work with him?

Years – Thank you! It’s been absolutely great. I’ve seen him a few times the past year, and it’s always a pleasure. Axtone has always been a pioneer in the music scene and it’s amazing to be part of that.

Nikhil – Your productions have always had a very infectiously unique melodic sound, what is the thought process usually like when u get down to make your melodies?

Years – I usually get the melody in my head. This can come to me at any time of the day, it doesn’t matter. If I still remember the melody after a few days, I write it down and try to make something more full out of it. I’ll afterwards let the goosebumps decide whether it’s a delete or keep haha!

Nikhil – Who have been your influences and inspirations which inspired you to start making your own music?

Years – There are so many musicians that have inspired me, and to this day still do. If I had to pick one, it’d probably be Avicii. He’s such a genius with his melodies and the way he blends genres is very inspiring to watch.

Nikhil – Who have been your favorite producers and labels of 2016 so far?

Years –  I’m not following labels that much to be honest. I tend to move my attention to where the music speaks for itself. Whether that label is Axtone, Refune, Universal, Sony or whatever doesn’t matter to me. I think Corey James, Klahr, Sonny Alven, Marcus Schossow and Bolier is killing it this year! Big fan of their work and I’m always excited to see what they come up with next.

Nikhil – After getting your tracks signed to Axtone, Code Red, Refune Music, Armada Music, Big Beat Records, Armada Trice which labels are you now looking forward to get your upcoming stuff signed on?

Years – As I said above, I’m not watching labels that closely. Whoever believes in my work, and I believe in too will get to release my stuff.

Nikhil – How has the backing and support from industry heavyweights like Axwell, Marcus Schossow, Armin van Buuren and Sebastien Ingrosso helped you shape up your career so far?

Years – Their input has always been very inspiring and pushed me like nothing else. I value their opinion a lot, but always follow what is true to me in the end. I think that’s how you stand out, follow what’s true to you.

Nikhil – Which producers would you love to collaborate with in near future?

Years – That will definitely be Klahr! He’s such a talented producer and I would love to get creative with him.

Nikhil – Where do you see the direction of house music scene going in the years to come?

Years – That’s very difficult to say, things are changing so fast. I think we’ll return to more emotional melodic music that speaks to the soul. I also think we’ll see a lot of “older” genres return in a new fresh take. It’s going to be interesting watching and being part of the scene the next couple of years.

Nikhil – What do you personally consider to be the incisive moments in your artistic career so far?

Years – That will be my “Sun Is Shining” remix with Marcus Schossow and now my remode of “Belong” with Axwell!

Nikhil – Can we expect your track which Axwell Λ Ingrosso have been playing out in their sets since Ultra Miami 2015 to come out this year?

Years – That’s a very nice hat you have there ;-)

Nikhil – All aspiring producers want to know if you plan on doing demo/promo feedback sessions and putting out studio tutorials of how you made your previous tracks in near future?

Years – Yes, I think that’s a brilliant idea! I would definitely be up for doing something like this. Once I have more originals out there this will be a thing to do for sure.

Nikhil – Apart from your highly anticipated collaboration with New_ID called ‘Fly Forever’, are there any other tracks which we should keep an eye out for?

Years – Yes of course! I got a lot of exciting stuff coming. I cannot mention anything specific, but be sure to keep updated through my channels.
