T.H.E – Hi Tony Kay, how are you?

Tony Kay – I’m doing great, thanks for asking

T.H.E – Can you tell us more about yourself? where are you from, what do you do?

Tony Kay – I’m a deep / tech / house DJ & producer from Marrakech, Morocco and currently living in Dubai. Playing music, making music and a love for the party scene are the three sole things that drive me. I like to keep pushing my creative limits, whether it’s behind the decks or in the studio. There are so many DJ’s out there and they just stick to the “standard” way of performing. Playing a song then transitioning to the next and so on. Me, I prefer to play longer sets, keeping the energy all throughout, doing live mashups, using vocals and elements from different tracks all at the same time.

T.H.E – How were you first introduced to music? How did you know this is what you wanted to do?

Tony Kay – My passion for music has been with me since childhood; with the early 2000’s American Hip Hop and Rap, and I remember vividly the very first time I heard Electronic music. It was actually at school during lunch break in the computer lab. The track was Sidekick’s ‘Deep Fear’ being blasted on speakers. I was 13 years old and from that point on my enthusiasm for underground house just kept on growing.

At 15 years old was the first time I put my hands on decks and decided to learn how to DJ. At 17 I started DJing whilst organizing parties & events.

T.H.E – Who are your biggest musical influences?

Tony Kay – Influenced by the North African, European and American underground sounds, DJs like Dennis Cruz, Marco Carola, Seth Troxler, DJ Chus just to name a few.

T.H.E – How did you learn how to produce?

Tony Kay – As I have learnt to DJ by myself with hours of practice daily I did the same thing to learn music production. Quite a different process with some help of youtube tutorials and I always apply this to my productions: If it doesn’t sound good and right then it isn’t.

T.H.E – How would you describe your sound?

Tony Kay – This is a good question, it’s quite tough to describe it with one word. Groovy, organic, raw and with African & Middle Eastern influences.

T.H.E – What would you say is your biggest achievement so far?

Tony Kay – Learning to make music, starting my weekly radio show ‘In The Mix’, excelling my DJ skills with 3 & 4 decks mixing.

T.H.E – Where would you love to perform?

Tony Kay – Day Zero – Tulum, Echoes From Agartha – Cappadocia, EXIT Festival – Serbia, Ministry of Sound – London, DC-10 – Ibiza, Ushuaia – Ibiza, Destino & Pacha – Ibiza, and definitely would love to do a Morocco & UAE tour.

T.H.E – Do you have any hobbies?

Tony Kay – I’m an adrenaline junkie, I really love extreme sports. Jet skiing, buggy and quad in the desert.

T.H.E – What’s in store for Tony Kay for the coming months?

Tony Kay – In a couple of weeks I will have my 3rd release. Looking forward to have ‘In The Mix’ on radios around the world.
